How does LSU always schedule so many home games? They lead Arkansas by 7-10 games each year.

Because LSU is averaging over 10,000 a home game. If LSU can make a profit off of baseball they should schedule even more home games. I'm sure the Big 10 would love to play out of the snow.

Yes, the actual attendance is lower with all the no shows. Attendance is based off of tickets sold. If LSU has YO money then they don't really care if you show up.

Correct, LSU averages just over 6,000 per game.

LSU makes some ground while Arkansas is going to a tourney and to away games early in the year.

Feb weather in Fayetteville can be a cold bitch, so we go to a tourney further down south and usually head to the West Coast for a series early in the year.

That's the reason they have more home games than us every year.

So, you are comparing attending figures between a school in a decently sized college town, versus two of the largest metros in the US?

I can find several schools on that list in decently sized college towns that have pro teams somewhat close as well, like A&M, UVA, Baylor, UGA.

When TCU or Rice are drawing 4,000 fans, sometimes while an Astros or Rangers game is going on a very short distance away simultaneously, it debunks the myth that absolutely everyone prefers going to an MLB game over college

I will be bitter if the SEC tries to sell them to us as our rival. Not feeling it at all.

always did apparently. but they sure love their Cardinals. Mizzou fans are too sophisticated to watch little ole college baseball. even though Hog fans manage to root for the Cards and average nearly 8,000 at Baum stadium.

Let's just go ahead and trade Mizzou for Nebraska.

Mizzou gets to suck it up in the B1G, we get a decent midwest team that's more "country" and less "trailer trash", and we'll finally stop calling LSU fans corndogs.

I go to the occasional Astros game during the week and go to College Station for several weekend series a year. My friends in Dallas and Fort Worth do the same for the Rangers. It's a dumb excuse to make.

This. It's understandable if not everyone likes Mizzou baseball, but averaging a few hundred at each game is just embarrassing.

Especially when your campus has over 30k students. That is apathy.

Do you have to drive 2 or 3 hours to get to the college game like someone from KC or St. Louis would have to? Most pf them being afternoon games also it's kind of hard to get off work as well.

Now I will say this though there's a little over 100,000 people in Columbia Mo and over 150,000 in the general area. There's over 33,000 students and close to 17,000 staff members. I find it hard to believe they can't get over 1,200 a game average. If I lived there and was able to get to games I would be there supporting them.

I think a lot of it has to do with how bad the team is right now. from 2003 to 2009 they made the tournament every year I'm betting they had larger crowds back then.

I drive an hour and a half from Houston. Plenty of people come from Dallas/Fort Worth though which is 2.5-3 hrs away from College Station. The weekend games don't conflict with work for me, I usually just go up Friday after work.

Shane, normally you are a good poster, but you seem to be struggling with population density tonight. MLB is big in MO.
Rangers/Astros attendance = 5M
population of TX = 23M (subtracted over 2M for San Antonio/west TX because of distance)
% of support = 21%

Cardinals/Royals attendance = 4.8M
population of MO = 7M (added 1M for west KC and east STL)
% of support = 68.6%

MO supports MLB about 3X as much as TX.

I'm not going to rationalize Mizzou's attendance because it sucks.

ETA: for a relative number, the SEC baseball attendance is around 2M

Ours that are listed in the above referenced chart are paid attendance numbers.

LSU has more season ticket holders than we do.

I'm surprised that the Box has that large of a general admission area, though.

As a longtime Astros fan I know that the Cardinals fanbase is fantastic, which is why I don't understand why the Mizzou baseball team is under supported. Taking the Astros attendance from this past year isn't that fair because they were absolutely terrible and there was a general vendetta against the owner, but whatever.

There's 6 Texas college teams in the top 21 of college baseball attendance so far this year. Another, Texas State, is 46, and that's in Longhorn territory and most of their students are UT fans. A&M and Tech don't have a big local population to pull from either. There's probably several other commuter schools that have top 60-70 attendance too. When you consider that and divide that by the population, you're splitting up the Texas state population quite a bit. Not to mention the Round Rock Express and many other minor league teams which are very well supported.

There's really only one college team in the state of Missouri, and it's a state where baseball is clearly appreciated, that's why I don't understand it. It's pretty easy to support both a pro and college team. I hope Mizzou does it because I think they would be great college baseball fans if it caught on.

The only negative thing about college baseball. Every school has their student area where the beer flows, but I would love to be able to sit in my seat right by the infield and have a cold one.
