The funny thing is that it matters less to us than the fact the state of Missouri calls Coke "pop" or some shite.
FWIW: I was born and raised in Missouri and have lived here 50 years and not once in my entire life have I ever called Coke pop or heard anyone close to me call it that. No one I have ever known says lets go get a pop, we all say lets go get a coke.. I've even been corrected at a few places that said we don't have Coke is Pepsi or RC alright when I knew they only served Pepsi or RC.
For other things I usually call them soda when using a generic name.
As for being southern I'd say no I'm not southern but do have a lot of southern leanings and really don't think anything that happened 150 years ago solidifies any claim to anything at this time..
I am what I am and I am now an SEC fan who was sick to death at the thought of being in the BIG a year or so ago.. I think bringing up the BIG is not needed because when many wanted the BIG I think none of them even through the SEC would give Mizzou a second look none the less invite us in.. But you did and we're glad to be here and only hope is that the school does what it takes by spending the money to be competitive in the SEC..

re: Mizzou and Aggie fans, can you list your schools' national championships by all sports?
Posted by sfury on 6/27/12 at 11:29 am
quote:I would say that 2 consensus national championships is correct. You say your interested in our history so I will give a little bit of it.
Back to the topic: Is two national championships correct?
And of course there was 1960 in football when Missouri was ranked number 1 and undefeated until Kansas chose to use a player Bert Cohen they knew would be declared ineligible because he was their only chance of winning. They did win and knocked Missouri out of the number 1 spot only to later have to forfeit the game. So Missouri finished 10 and 1 and lost the chance of being National Champions but later were given the win back but couldn't be given the number 1 ranking back because it was after the National Championship was decided so the record books show them at 11 and 0. They were ranked number 1 when the loss happened so had they won they most likely would have been national champions.

Don't think we need him but if somehow we landed him it would be an embarassment of riches
While I think Mizzou will be fine with out him if they don't get him. I still like the idea of adding a 6' 10" 210 lb center whose strengths are blocked shots and rebounding if things can be worked out to bring him in.

It is kind of interesting and it's in the courthouse actually.

Surely (I would think) the cannon ball has been checked out and disarmed, unless it's a solid slug, which is unlikely.

Has the cannon ball not been removed? I was wondering if it's still armed. I found an unexploded Civil War cannon ball when I was a kid that still had the fuse. They can still explode in some circumstances. Just wondering...
Here's a real good picture of it.

The cannoball is actually lodged in one of the columns of the courthouse.
After I posted it I was thinking it was in the column but when I said front side I wasn't being specific I was just meaning some where on the front of the building.
I lived in Bates City in Lafayette county for close to 20 years and been to Lexington many times so I had seen it many times. It's been a while since I was there and forgot the exact location of it.

Maybe they are seeing Franklin, Berkstresser, Mauk and now Hosick in line to be QB's and are thinking they might be better off getting playing time somewhere else.

WOAH! This is the first time I am seeing this guy. Are we really in the running for him, and when is he looking to sign? A 5-Star is still out there? Yall need to catch me up on this.
He has since de-committed from St. Johns and I found on an Iowa State site that he apparently says he's hearing from Mizzou and is possibly planning a visit so evidently they have figured out a way to bring him in if he wants to come.
According to that site he said he's planning on playing in 2012 and hearing most from Memphis, Missouri, UConn, UTEP, Florida St & New Mexico.
That's all I know, but I saw someone on TB say he was coming for a visit so I asked because I thought URHatinIt might have some info on it because he does such a good job here finding out about these recruits.

Arch Clement was killed in Lexington (another great battlefield to visit) and is buried nearby. I had three ancestors who rode with Quantrill so this era has been an interest of mine for quite some time.

For you Mizzou people there is a great little bookshop in Liberty that specializzes in Bushwacker memorabilia, clothing (they wore special shirts that could hold lots of ammo) and books. Great place. It's right near the bank that the James boys robbed and across the street from the old jail. The robbery was first daylight bank robbery in American history. Also, you should go to Bushwacker Days in Nevada, MO. Great thread by the way.
Is that Liberty Bank still a Jesse James Museum?
I also was wondering since I haven't been up there in awhile but do they still have the play about the James boys life at their old farmhouse up by Kearney Missouri? They used to have it on weekends through the summer.
And speaking of grave-sites I grew up in Independence Missouri and we used to go to this park called Hill Park. In the very back of it we went into this really small graveyard and that is where Frank James grave is.

I agree I think most of us wanted to stick with the Block M.
But they are just uniforms so I don't see the big deal myself I just wanna see some football the SEC way!!

The Robinson Twins would be good to get as they plan on playing both football and basketball. Both being top 250 recruits in football and top 150 recruits in basketball makes them very valuable.
From the article I read it looks like their top picks are Oregon, Washington and ND but it was just speculation by the writer. Good to see they have mentioned Mizzou in their favorites I'd like to see them here.

Interesting I wonder why they would do that considering our only official WR commit at this point is J'Mon Moore and he may be looking elsewhere...
They also have 3 players listed as ATH so maybe they're going to try one or two of them out.

quote:He did commit to Clemson today but I will say if the Clemson coach is wrong there may be a bunch of commits de-commit because he's evidently assuring them they aren't moving to the Big 12.
Hell some people think Clemson is gonna end up in the Big Clusterfrick, why would Daniel want to put himself in that situation
A few of Dabo Swinney comments on the Big 12.
quote:
"In my opinion, going to the Big 12 would be the worst thing we could do as a football program. It makes zero sense. We are the ACC. This is a program that has just won the championship and we’ve won it more than any other team in the conference. We can fulfill any goal and dream we have right here in this conference. We have a tremendous footprint to recruit in, to play in."
"If you want to know how going to the Big 12 is going to affect Clemson, I’ve lived it for about the last month," he said. "It has been very negative, very negative. It has impacted and affected our recruiting. I’ve had to spend a lot of time re-recruiting guys and assuring them that we aren’t going to the Big 12. It has been a big distraction and it has been negative, quite frankly. I’m speaking from the front lines. My job is to coach the team, and we’ll coach them wherever. It has been irresponsible on a lot of people’s parts on some of the stuff that has been put out there. I know for a fact that we are committed to making this the best league that it can possibly be and committed to making Clemson the national champion."
