Is it? If anything, I've always seen charges dropped that were initially put fourth, not the other way around. If it looked like weed, then it is likely that the drugs+gun charge would've been added, and then if they test it and its not weed, then those charges would be dropped.
I meant common as they take time to decide.

This is the point where you should remember what you posted, and wonder why Alabama fans are piling it on the next LSU players arrested. An endless cycle.

LSU players/Heisman finalists get kicked off the team without having been arrested..

You're describing how it would usually happen in Alabama. It is far more common to see the charges reduced instead of upgraded here, but when I asked the same question way back in the thread several non-trolling LSU posters said exactly what Caterpiller just did.
Louisiana's legal system is quite different than the other 49 states, so that may play a part in how they do it but really it all works out the same in the end.
If the DA upgrades the charges, the mess they're in a really major mess.

How exactly is it different when pertaining to why they would have to take time to decide if they wanted to add charges that they could have easily just added initially?

Yea, after 3-4 f'ups.
Get out of here with this mess.

Actually probably wouldn't bother me. Just like this shouldn't bother you. Nothing any of us can do about it. If they had guns and weed then they deserves every piece. They gone. Hope Mr. Robinson still gets drafted or doesn't go to jail considering that's more likely to happen now. Oh well

And starting QBs stay on the team when charged with felony battery. Almost as if Les reviews situations on a case by case basis.
For the record, I think he handled the Jefferson situation just fine. I bring it up to point out that the horse you're trying to ride isn't very high.

Let's talk about Nick bringing back a kid who robbed & beat a student

they aren't currently charged with a felony under that statute.
This from Al.com:
"Jones and Robinson were also charged with possessing a handgun in the presence of narcotics. The charges were filed at 4:02 a.m."

The other states all use a legal system based on English common law. Theirs is based on a mishmash of common law and the French/Spanish/Roman civil law. I'm not a lawyer, so those differences aren't clear to me. I just know they're different and attorneys that might be a star in other states can't even sit for, much less pass the Louisiana Bar.
Legal system differences may not play into it at all. It may just be the way they traditionally deal with charges that are somewhat discretionary in nature.

He didn't. Pettway was just in the car with the thug (Eddie Williams) who did the beating. He didn't actually partake in the assault.
But keep talking out of your arse.

1. Pettway didn't beat anyone, he was there with the guys who did and was charged accordingly
2. He was kicked off the team. He then went to Junior College, did everything he was supposed to do and was brought back only after that.
3. He's been a model citizen since.
I didn't like bringing him back, I thought he should have had to go somewhere else, but to act like he just beat a kid up and then ran a few stairs is wrong and you know it. As is the idea that Les runs some sort of zero tolerance ship in Baton Rouge. Puhleze.

Tight. Would still rather have the kid who has been through hell & back in his life and smoked weed in the confines of a home than a look-out for a robbery & assault on a fellow student.
What's done is done.
What's done is done.

What about the guys who beat the shite out of people at bars?
We all recruit the same kids, we generally all enforce punishments in a similar fashion. Let's not act like LSU is booting kids the second they make their first mistake here.

Nearly 3 times as many post in this thread compared to the Ole Miss one.

Pettway situation was fine to me.
Kicked him out, let him earn a chance to come back, and he did so. And he wasn't the guy who beat the kid.

Yeah.. no shite. They'll go from "will I play football for Alabama next season?" to "will I be in jail next season?"
Remove your fan glasses and if two 21-22 year old men were arrested for possession of drugs, a stolen gun under the seat, and a handgun..
Most people would say lock em up.
