The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees was never ready to move forward with an on-campus football stadium for UAB, even though a different impression may have been given at the board's September meeting, some trustees say.

Clearly there is some, and a lot.

2 they operate at such a loss, they have cut academic programs
Like what? And you think that's because of the football program

We just don't care if they get it or not.
Then your board should stop trying to block their efforts. If UAB is not asking for any funding from the Bama's ATHLETIC department they shouldn't care.
Pretty sure UAB is more than pulling it's financial weight within the system so all this talk of "Bama's Money" is bullshite. If you're AD isn't putting up any money then whatever funds UAB receives come from the University System which should be shared proportionately with all of the schools.

That's 100% false. UAB has existed for about 40 years and the football program has been around for 23, and as Div 1 for about 15. They've operated with zero resources that whole time, no shite there isn't a vocal alumni support compared to Bama and its sidewalk alum.

I agree. Every school have alumni support. Might not be as big as Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Florida, etc but they have them.
UA Endowment $631.9 million
UAB Endowment $335 million
UAH Endowment $18 million
UAB have great alumni support.
That's some support.

I am well aware of their position on incurring debt for a new stadium.
My reference was to the mouth-breathing OP who posted some inane bullshite about the BoT shutting the program down.

The study was commissioned by the UAB presidents office as part of the long term strategic planning (the same one that eliminated 23 positions from UAB Medicine today).

These schools are all private schools. I've lived in Birmingham for 16 years and 99% of the UAB alumni, students, faculty and staff that I know don't give a damn about their football program. If they don't, why should I?
Why would the students drive 20 minutes across the city into the ghetto? Put a stadium on campus that the students can walk to and there would be a huge student presence and support at the games.

Except for the majority of politicians, lawyers, and judges in this state are UA alumni. So I like our chances in court..

The majority of UABs money has came from federal research grants, not alumni support..

LSU, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Purdue and Texas
LSU and Nebraska were the only 2 in 2007 (IIRC) that didn't need state tax $$, student fees (thank goodness because LSU has a ton of those already) or subsidies.
As of 2012, Alabama was still not on the list.

Athletics departments getting subsidy money when they are self-sufficient "raises a major question about institutions, which are always trying to play catch-up in the athletic realm, relying on institutional and government subsidies and student fees to make ends meet at a time when we have very limited resources," says Anne D. Neal, president of the American Council of Trustees and Alumni. "And that raises questions as to whether institutions are paying attention to their primary purpose, which is education."
LSU, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Purdue and Texas were the only schools to report no subsidy money in 2012. Michigan reported receiving less than $260,000: $16,000 in federal work study funding and the remainder from the university to cover the salary of academic services director Phil Hughes, according to athletics spokesman Dave Ablauf.

How much money have you donated to UAB's athletic foundation? If you guys would throw in a dollar every time you white knight for UAB they could have built another AT&T Stadium by now.

Agreed and I have been in the Bhm area most of my life and I am old.
The faculty that I know that harp about no stadium, do not even support the program and have never been to a game, and the alumni I know are either Alabama or Auburn fans. If they are going to a game it will be to Auburn or Alabama.

100% false? Didn't take statistics I gather. Why aren't they at the games then? Why does the athletic dept operate at a loss every single year?

So? UAB has money. They're currently building a state of the art student union. UA just won't approve them to spend their own money on athletics.

I've probably been to more UAB games than most of their current students have.

Then why did the Alabama Crimson Tide need $5million from the University of Alabama in 2013? LINK
I can't get it to link to the alabama par, but if you clink on the link provided, then click where it says link in the first paragraph it will take you a break down of every FBS schools athletic budget.

Build a new stadium for a shite team with weak alumni support. Great business plan Richard.
