Would you want to have to pay the bill for a program with that little support?....hell no!
They are part of the University of Alabama system. The system is not just there to support UAT.

Here's an example of the fricking bullshite that is the UAB football program.
"The city routinely buys blocks of tickets to help UAB's football program maintain its NCAA Division I status. The pending contract calls for 5,000 season tickets a year at $225,000. The tickets are distributed to city employees, youth groups and neighborhood associations."
That's right. In order to keep the UAB football program NCAA eligible, the Birmingham City Council buys 5,000 season tickets every year and gives the tickets away for free. Yank away the tit of the Birmingham City Council and see what happens. It's a fricking joke.

This is bullshite. UAB is the state's largest employer. UA comes off like a whiny baby with all the hatred towards UAB. You won't play them, you do your best to sandbag their athletic programs. Gene Bartow was right about UA.
Are UA alumni and fans really that intimidated by the C. USA power that is UAB?

When the program has to rely on the Birmingham City Council for over half of its season ticket sales, no sandbagging is necessary to wreck the program. It's already a fricking joke.

They're top 4 in their conference in attendance, not really a joke.

Sure I have and Redstone is a great boost to Huntsville and Alabama in general.
Try a google search about UAB. I am pretty sure they are still the state's largest single employer.
I like Alabama on the whole, but it is pretty disgraceful the way UAB is treated.
Also, Bryant Jr. is the reason for all this animosity. If you want a good article on why Bryant should have left that kid on the side of the road, try reading this

It all comes down to Baby Bear being an insecure count. I would think that even the most hardcore, al.com posting sidewalk fan could see this.

If UA ever approved UAB to actually spend money on their program then maybe they could actually compete. Most OTM high schools have better football facilities than UAB. Just because the money UAB makes doesn't come from athletics now doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to spend the money they make on improving their athletics.
If UAB had a place to play other than a rusty dump in the ghetto where people actually wanted to go and more importantly UAB students had easy access to, then then the city of Birmingham wouldn't have to buy tickets from UAB.
Not to mention a downtown on campus stadium isn't just good for UAB, it's good for the whole city of Birmingam. And a successful UAB is good for the whole UA system, which why it's a joke that they don't give UAB athletics anything

This board represents the worst of the Bama Blind faithful. If you cannot see UAB gets the shaft from UA you are either delusion or just too damn defensive. I am done with this thread. Nothing good will come of it as you blindly defend how UA BOT screws UAB over.
Anyway, it does not matter. UAB will be fine with or without a football program. Could UA say the same?

Here's how big of a joke it is. shite like this happens. Because UAB can't legitimately field a viable, self-sustaining program, they find themselves blackmailed by the crooks that are Birmingham city government. And is it over something one might expect, like the lease at Legion Field? No. Birmingham refuses to buy those 5,000 season tickets unless the UAB foundation (NOT the UA trustees) play ball over the use of a little league field. And UAB has to have those 5,000 tickets sold.
And we're supposed to think that this university can support a viable NCAA football program on their own?
