While u are at it close down Tech and Grambling as well. Then build the University of North Louisiana and join the SEC.

again, not a fair comparison.

Now if ULM and ULL were under the LSU system, and LSU had to write a check every year in order to pay the bills at those football programs, and say ULM wanted to build a $60 million dollar stadium, we would have a similar argument.

Does the LSU system support any other football teams?

Kansas is THE state school. You can't compare this to anything but to the unique situation UAB is in.

Listen YDG. If UAB drops football or continues to not invest in football they have no shot at getting into a better conference. Investing in bball wouldn't do shite. The AAC invited Tulsa, Tulane, and ECU because they had football and passed on a school such as VCU which has good basketball, 30K students, large market and medical school. Kansas's shite football program is what would have stopped them from getting an invite to the PAC12 or Big 10 back in 2011. If UAB drops basketball, they would be in the Big South or Sun-Belt. Not exactly good basketball conferences.

I don't think ULM needs to be closed down, it does a good job for students that can't get into LaTech or LSU. GSU and Southern though need to have been closed 25 years ago atleast.

The LSU system doesn't support any teams. Unlike your precious Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU receives $0 from the school (Bama$5.5million according to IRS documents I linked last night).

well if you want your football team to continue, but not at legion field, i would suggest you drop the appeal to get a $60 million stadium.

play at regions field. or wait till the city of bham "wisely" builds a stadium.

LSU doesn't play at Legions field.

I would suggest UA quit being a twat and let UAB do what it want.

2012 our football profits outpaced revenue by $45 million or so.

LINK

Not sure which accounting tricks were being done, but I am sure the amount was re-invested into the school in some way.

Hard to do that with rumors about UA killing the program in 2016. Maybe if UA BOT came out and squashed the rumor?

i was referring to the UAB fan(s).

But your post exposes why YOU DONT GET IT. The Alabama system pays for the shortage created by UAB. Why add to that debt load with no legitimate history of being able to support a football team on an FBS level?

Most athletic programs receive a school subsidy to cover Title IX sports. The athletic department at Alabama and other profitable schools usually kick back a large part of that to the school if they make a profit. I think Tennessee kicks back all profit.

Considering the original article does not even mention a name kind of hard to squash a vague rumor

The "B Club" should stop spreading the rumor then. Aside from this conveniently leaked letter, there is zero evidence pointing towards the closing of UAB football. Hell this letter doesn't even go that far; it only mentions a "study" and does not say by whom.

Again your whole premise is that you do not believe the feasibility report.

There is no way to disprove your thoughts on this. I can only go by the data presented that the stadium would in fact pay for itself and lessen the amount UA gives to UAB.

Just out of curiosity, can you find any link or evidence anywhere disputing the report? Can you detail how much UA gives to support UAB football?

imagine that. A school putting priority on academics over athletics.

Data that is completely made up in a report created by people who want a stadium built. I mean the projections say that UAB football will be generating $5.5 million a year in revenue. It is currently LOSING over $1 million a year.

They had around 30,000 for Troy and A&m this year. When they're actually good people come.

Or you could argue they only draw good crowds when in state schools play them. So which in state schools will play in Birmingham next year to bail out their attendance?

quote:

And lookie here, the stadium was expected to be profitable from the start and they had the donors lined up and the commitments lined up.

Read it again. It said they had FIVE YEAR committments. What happens if five years down the road ten of those suites go unsold? Who picks up the tab to help pay off the stadium? Exactly. If they want to build it they need to get the money, not some "IOUs" from people.

quote:

Read the multiple articles linked. The stadium would get 500k annually for naming rights and turn a 5 mil profit in year one. Easily enough to service the bonds and then some

Until they have a signed contract guaranteeing them $500,000 for naming rights that figure is meaningless. Hell, look how long it took Jerry World to sign a sponsor.

quote:

But its OK to spend $35 million on new baseball stadium for Roll Tide, not to mention new frat houses, etc , etc, etc. The board has tyrant running it and wants to suppress UAB and UAH to line to pocket of pro UAT faithful. Total SCAM and only a stupid corrupt EVIL GUMP would buy into it. Frick off.

That money already exists. UAB has "promises" for money.

quote:

UAB tried that. They had Jimbo Fisher and were paying his salary themselves, or most of it.

Serious question: Has anyone ever gotten Jimbo to publicly say he would have taken the job? I have a hard time believing he would have stuck with UAB over the offer he later got to be Bowden's OC/HCIW considering his long history with the Bowden family.

quote:

That is my point. Without football you won't get into a better conference. Especially with where UAB is located. C-USA would drop them for ULL or Arky State in a heartbeat if they cancelled football. Then they would be stuck in the Sun Belt at best and probably worse than that. VCU would be a killer get for the AAC but without football they are worthless.

Which is true now. If they had put all of their money into basketball 20 years ago instead of chasing a football team who knows where they would be.

quote:

Hard to do that with rumors about UA killing the program in 2016. Maybe if UA BOT came out and squashed the rumor?

The rumor is being put out by the people that just started a new foundation for UAB football. I'm sure there is no way they would try and scare people to try and raise money. That has never been done before.

quote:

I think Tennessee kicks back all profit.

Not recently. They received permission to not send any money to the academic side for several years so they could keep their athletics from running into the red.
