I think the running game won't be as strong.

I think the defense will be better especially if Cody stays.

I agree the offense won't be as good but I think they've got more talent on defense than we've seen in a long time.

McElroy is not young. He's a RS JR. We'll miss JPWs leadership a bit but I don't expect much of a dropoff at the QB position.

Well, then as much as Wilson struggled last year (2007),why didn't McElroy get some playing time ? Saban went through QB's at LSU like socks.

I'm with you on that one. Most of the time, Saban will stick with the senior guy on the team and he trusted in JPW to take care of his mistakes. If JPW would have struggled this year, I think McElroy would have gotten more playing time.

McElroy sit behing Chase Daniel for 3 years in HS before getting his shot and then he broke all of Chase's records. I don't think he'll do that here because we don't throw enough but I think McElroy will do ALOT better than most people think.

I hear you,but his last year at LSU, he moved SR Marcus Randall and RsFR JaMarcus Russell all over the place. Started Russell on SR night vs Ole Miss, yet started Randall a week later in Little Rock vs Arkansas. That's why is handling of Wilson and McElroy last year was so curious and couldn't help but make you think there must have been some huge drop off.

I agree. I remember Randall struggling in the first half of y'alls opener against Arizona St and Russell came out in the 2nd. He shuffled them two around all year long. He might do the same here if McElroy struggles early next year. We might see Star Jackson.

I think our defense is too good to go 7-5 next year though. I still believe we'll finish with 9-10 wins because our D will be much better.

I think he learned a lesson from his days at LSU.

If he wanted to make a change he could have done in in 2007. He could've easily inserted McElroy last year and made the job up for grabs this year.

I'm a big JPW fan, but I do believe that McElroy has more talent.

I think McElroy didn't see the field because he has become a believe in "if you've got two then you don't have one".

Just my opinion and I could be wrong. I'm sure we'll find out in 9 months with the Mac versus Star issue.

JPW was -not- at his best this season. Coaching utterly choked his plays out in the passing department and rightly so. We were in the green as far as turnover ratio this year... notice how much that played into wins vs losses compared to last year. Last year, under Applewhite's coaching, I'm remembering that we turned the ball over a lot more (didn't look up the turnover ratio though.)

So, this year, JPW was under much more strict guidelines. Everyone's right to say he never lost games for us this year... he never made mistakes. It was very peaceful to watch us not shoot ourselves in the foot this year.

McElroy? I'll bet we could expect to see either the exact same QB as displayed in JPW due to the fact that our play calling will likely be -very- similar, except I would add a few more turnovers in the passing dept. We can also expect to see a few more mental mistakes out of his lack of true game experience. HOWEVER, after a game or two or three, he may just light up. Anyone that has actually paid attention to when he's been in at QB, he's made some particularly amazing tosses. He's easily got potential enough to fill Wilson's shoes as far as passing goes.

I think McElroy will do fine and I think he will perform as well as JPW has this year, but it is easy to come in and look like a superstar when you are doing mopup duty because the game is in hand. I hope he does a good job. The pass he made in the Auburn game was impressive.

you're right about mop-up duty being much easier...much less stress. but no matter what, IF you can throw a pass like that in a real game, it's not some weird coincidence. passes like those aren't mistakes, they can only be legit. so like you were saying, he should be able to fill at least jp's role.

far as those 5 stars, don't count all yer chickens before they hatch.

Our defense next season should be sick. The competition for all starting positions other than inside linebacker will be absolutely ferocius.

Guys like Courtney Upshaw and Mark Barron (between the two they made probably 90% of the tackles on special teams) will fight hard for a spot on defense. I suspect a frosh or two will get some snaps too. Don't know about a freshman starting unless one of them is a killer pass rusher.

Offensively, I think our running game will change somewhat. Not so much "between the tackles" stuff, and more passes to backs in the flat (due to the hands of Richardson et al.) Our tight ends will get more touches too. Peek is better than anyone we had this year and Smelly will be a year improved (he has good hands too).

If we land Randle and or Kendal Kelly, our WRs will be ridiculous. We already have Jones, Bowman and Norwood. Any QB for Alabama will walk around with "wood" all the time.

I've heard a couple of people say he's "not mean enough" yet. Nobody outside the coaching staff really knows though.

Dang man, he's a freshman. He's being redshirted. That is hands down the smartest thing to do with him since we didn't need him up front this year. Which current o-linemen would you have him replace? And why? There is no need to burn a year of eligibility for mop-up duty....

Love is getting a medical redshirt.

Like I said before, our O will definitely be worse off, almost like Auburn's the past few years due to line play. However, our defense will be THE best in the country as long as Cody stays.
