No trolling; genuinely curious. Seems like Dabo has lost his luster, and I can't see them offering Kiffin. Kirby would never leave his alma mater.
Dan Lanning?
LOL No way Laning is going to take the Alabama job. He is winning and doing great where he is at. Why leave? I say either an unknown coach will take over or one of his assistants that will flop and get fired in 3 years or less.

Not really. Didn't work out too well for Bill Curry, who succeeded Perkins, who succeeded Bryant. If you haven't won a national championship by year three you're out the door.
Perkins wasn't a bad coach and had Bama going in the right direction. He was a great recruiter and Bama was reeling in top talent and then he left for the NFL again. Curry was a disastrous hire.

Oregon's had this so-called advantage for nearly 20 years and they have nothing to show for it.
Short of getting a bunch of sanctions before Saban retires, Alabama will be able to get whoever they want within reason. Whether that guy turns out to be successful is a different story, but there won't be a better opportunity for many years
This is a homer's point of view.
Objectively, what does Alabama offer a head coaching candidate that Oregon cannot, outside of being in the SEC?
Now it all comes down to the candidate and what he actually values but objectively, Alabama isn't that much better of a job than Oregon in 2023.
Alabama homers will downvote and that's okay, but you should also ask yourselves why you had to settle for Tommy Rees and Kevin Steele after Alabama fans swore they could get any coordinator they wanted.

Dan Lanning is my first choice. Second choice is Sark, though he probably won't voluntarily leave Texas for Bama.

That's not going to happen because they won't have to offer him.
Oh contrair, neither Auburn or LSU actually offered Sunbelt Billy the HC job. Billy put that in the rumor mill himself hoping his stock would increase - it worked and FL hired him.

No he wasn't. The top brass were just pissed because he lost to Auburn. He led Bama to a 10-2 record, a share of the SEC Championship and a Sugar Bowl berth in year three, Alabama's first major bowl since the Bryant era. They rewarded him with a new contract that would have removed his ability to hire and promote his assistants. What a kick in the balls. I would've left too.

Recruiting. Alabama is in the middle of the best recruiting area in the country.

Here’s what Alabama offers:
You will have the resources to succeed at Alabama. If you succeed, you will basically become a god in this state. They’ll put a statue of you in front of the stadium. Parents will name their kids after you. You will have a chance to go down as one of the greatest coaches of all time. You have the opportunity at Alabama to have an impact beyond football that few if any other similar coaching jobs can match.

Agreed. But even he had Bama in the Sugar Bowl against Miami with a chance to win an NC. Also recruited a lot of the Studs on the 1992 NC team. So he wasn't a total waste.

That's true of literally any elite level CFB head coaching job.
