At any rate, I believe Jones starts in 2020 then Young probably takes over in 2021. Jones will likely leave then.
That is more likely. I'm expecting to see Mac Jones as QB and Najee Harris making an appearance in New York at the end of the year.
But Saban will play the best player, and if that is Young, then he will be out there.

Was the basis for Fields or Martell's waivers ever disclosed?

A great question nobody can answer as of yet. I knew baby Tagovailoa would bail on us but I really wanted him to try and fight for the starting job in spring ball first. The virus robbed baby Tag from getting that chance though. Nowadays we all must keep our highly touted QB’s happy so it’ll be I interesting.

When Jalen took over in 2016. one reason was the other QB’s weren’t ready. Jalen showed his talents in the offseason. This time we have a QB who has the game experience with a bowl win over a quality team. Mac would really have to play badly in order for a switch. He threw two pick sixes in the Iron Bowl, but it overshadowed how well he bounced back from it to.
Bryce will be the starter eventually, but Mac hasn’t done anything yet to show that he can’t handle it.

This is why I wonder if him getting a lot of PT this year is not the best option. We have the most experienced and talented OL we’ve had since 2012, great RB and WR. With all of that experience we should be able to minimize any turnovers he makes within reason. Mac will do fine as a starter but Young is obviously the better athlete.
I think you are right with this. I see Mac starting all year but with Bryce getting some really significant playing time if we go up by two or three TDs. If Mac starts slinging a lot of interceptions, all bets are off.

Mac Jones takes us to the NC game and Young takes over the 2nd half for a NC. It's the Hurts-Tua combo all over again!

Mac will start the year but I think they both play a lot. I could see Young taking over by the LSU game if Mac has any struggles at all, which remains to be seen. I feel very good about our QB situation in 2020. 2021 is the Bryce Young show. I expect Mac to grad transfer out next year.

If you think a kid like Young came here to sit the bench you are naive.

You cited...0 examples of a player leaving because they didn't start as a true freshman.
Because it's a dumb decision.
You really want a list of all the guys who have transferred very early recently?
Hunter Johnson, Jacob Eason, Justin Fields, Tate Martell, the list goes on and on.
And for everyone that did transfer a bunch of other guys considered it closely.
Let’s not pretend like Mac Jones doesn’t have two years of eligibility. If Young isn’t the guy this year the odds are at best 50-50 he isn’t here next fall.

Macknife going to ball out and be a 1rst rd pick in the 2021 draft! Bryce's team next year. He said he would gladly spend this year as a chance to learn and adjust to the college game. Nothing to see here!

Had Tua not come off the bench in the NC game he would have been gone probably to USC immediately after the season.

Yeah, specifically ones that leave because they don't win the job as true freshman.

Hunter Johnson
Got beat out after spring football. Did not leave because he didn't start as a true freshman, but because he was passed up by others.
quote:
Jacob Eason
Transfered after 2 years. Oddly enough, did start as true freshman, but got injured and passed up.
quote:
Justin Fields
Stuck behind another 5 star with eligibility in a system that didn't suit him.
quote:
Tate Martell
Transferred after 2 years.

the list goes on and on.
Still waiting for 1 QB who left because he didn't win the starting job as a true freshman.

If Mac Jones beats him out for 2 years, then he's over hyped and should go somewhere else.

He makes a claim, they all think it came from Jesus.

Hurts was a true soph on the brink of leading yall to an NC after a narrow loss the year before; not hard to imagine Tua transferring if Hurts had finished and won that game, since TT would have probably had to bank on JH going pro in 2019

That's a good point.
Although then he's not transferring because he didn't start as a true freshman, but rather because he wouldn't be starting his 2nd year either.
These guys are claiming if Young doesn't start as a true freshman he will transfer, and that it's the norm.

No, but 5* recruits' egos are something else these days. If there's anyone suited to deal with that issue it's Saban though
