Bama - Poor passing, powerful running backs, a defense that keeps turning momentum

Ran across the 1993 Sugar Bowl highlights on YouTube of Alabama and Miami. Bama's QB, Jay Barker, only had about 17 yards passing in the first half and Derrick Lassic generated almost all of Alabama's offense throughout the game with the occasional second string running back being brought in. Bama's saving grace were special teams and an incredible defense. I felt like I could have been watching any Bama game in the last 10 years. Has the style of play changed at all?

Incidentally, Gino Torretta was Miami's quarterback in the game and had won the Heisman that season. He looked so bad against Bama's defense that he dropped to a 7th round NFL pick.

2017 Alabama leads the SEC in PPG and YPG. So no.

Nice job Ramblin.

I think Bama has only really strayed with Hurts and now Tua. Adding a little extra to the QB position. Other than that Bama's MO is run the ball and play defense.

Since 2014 Bama has been good on offense. Part of The Great Kiffin Revival.

It's a winning formula. The keys to success are a dominant O-line and defense. Adequate skill guys and a QB that doesn't lose games for you.

You'll be in contention every year with those ingredients.

12th in passing YPG. That's somehow behind LSU, by the way. Sounds like OP was spot on.

Not even on the same planet. 1992 Alabama scored more than 38 once all season. Barker completed less than 55% of his passes and wasn't a running threat. The running game overall in 1992 averaged only 4.3 YPC.

Passing is for pussies. Football is a grown man game. If you play it like a grown man, smash mouth style, you win like Alabama. If you play like a pussy and throw it all over the place, you’re Chokelahoma.
