And you do realize Auburn dropped $92 million on Auburn Arena BEFORE we hired Bruce...

I don't see a ton of Auburn fans calling it a bad hire. I think it's a good hire with the possibility of being a homerun. There are too many questions at this point to call it a homerun.

Only the Harvey-like Auburn fans (and some LSU fans who want to be Bama's rival) are - the basic everyday trolls here on the Rant. We know who they are and you know who they are.

It's the Alabama fans who respond to their nonsense is who I worry about. We are now on a couple of pages of nothing but hate over a pretty good hire. It ain't Coach K, but pretty good for Alabama, with chance to be great for Alabama - you can't ask for more than that really.

Yep, and then broke records with low levels of attendance.

AJ is the best hire in CBB this year.

I think it's a great hire. Bama needs someone energetic and fiery like AJ is. A lot of 17-18 y/o kids know his name and know he is connected with the NBA so that will help recruiting TREMENDOUSLY.

Is that what I said? Did I say you people were wrong because you were Auburn fans?

Or did I say you folks don't have any authority to pass judgment on the hire - due to your program's inability to produce a quality basketball team more than once a decade?

Either one is moronic.

Essentially, your opinion on the hire doesn't hold any water

No one on this board has an opinion that holds any water.

quote:

Your entire fanbase didn't acknowledge that basketball was even a sport until you hired Bruce Pearl, and you've finished with 6 consecutive losing seasons. You folks don't know or care anything about basketball because you've never been good at it enough to care for it. Bama is the butt of that joke frequently, but it's genuinely true with Auburn. Nobody cared about basketball in Auburn until Bruce Pearl showed up. So what do you know about the quality of a basketball hire?

So Auburn fans know nothing about the quality of a basketball hire because we aren't historically good? That's as dumb as your other statements.

quote:

You guys have just gotten all in a tizzy because Pearl showed up, somehow managed to lose to the coach we just fired - not once, but twice in the same year - and we just hired someone who will be a huge splash in the media and on the recruiting front.

This is doing exactly the same thing you're accusing Auburn fans of doing. This past year has no bearing on what Bruce can accomplish.

quote:

That's literally the only reason you guys care.

Some of us may be *gasp* basketball fans in general and it's something to discuss.

I don't think Bama was the world-beater in attendance

Couple games I saw on TV looked liked you could sit anywhere you wanted

Would you think the opinion of a Kansas Jayhawk football fan was worth anything at all if he was telling you how terrible of a hire Gus Malzahn was?

5,000 empty seats will do that.

2013-2014 Average attendance for Bama was 10,754

2013-2014 Average attendance for Auburn in a brand new arena was 5,823... good enough for 91st in the country. Behind schools like Weber State, Bradley, Hawaii, and Indiana State.

I don't know. I think about all of the rival fans on this board told us Gus was a terrible hire.

You'd be wrong. I don't think the Bama fanbase is loaded with them either.

Smoke is a legit basketball guy. Always has been as long as I have seen him post. MarshallCoTiger, wde24 is and played in college. There are a few. It doesn't take a ton of knowledge to,comment on a coaching hire.

Not sure why you Bama fans are taking it so hard, y'all are acting as if no one is allowed to offer an opinion. There are only a couple of AU fans that have stayed in troll mode over this. Majority have said it is a decent to great hire. Other fan bases have been more negative, but I get the need to focus on your big brothers....

Yeah you have always been engaged with basketball season comes around. Not sure what is up Tuscaloosa's arse. He trolls so much he thinks that is all anyone else does. Kind of like a guy who cheats but accuses his GF of cheating too.

It is without a doubt a homerun hire from a recruiting standpoint but the fact that he's never coached a college game bothers me more than a little.

At least there's excitement in the Bball program again. Unless he's a total flop, the atmosphere for the next few AJ/Pearl matchups should be epic....
