I had a college coach tell me that the a disciplined defense can soundly defeat a Malzhan offense. All the players need to do is recognize the reads properly. That comes from seeing it a few times. Like most gimmick offenses the defenses learn how to defend them.
Look at last year with a great OL and great defense yet they almost lost 6 games and only because of Cam Newton did they win them. So how can the offense of Malzham be so great if they can not dominate other teams with a great player like Newton?

Pretty sure she is from Ft Smith, Arkansas so I doubt it.

Other than the formation, what exactly is gimmicky about Malzahn's offense?

That's just football. They found a way to win. Don't forget Auburn's D sucked last year as well.

AUB will also have a new DC, and one asst goes with Gus to UNC???

I don't know that I'd call it gimmicky, just unconventional
you don't see too many forms of the Wing-T very often anymore.

Word is if he goes he will bring UNC alum Thigpen along to run the defense.

The spread schemes to hide the weakness in your team verses a power attack that attacks the other teams weakness.
Tubby said the reason he went to the spread is because it was getting harder and harder to find quality players at the skill positions.
Malzhan's offense is being defensed by players that have seen it and can't be decieved into getting out of position.
A team that can line up and fundamentally block another player will not have to decieve the player but overwhelm him.

Thank you Thayer Evans for your unnamed source.

Without Cam Newton AU doesn't win the Iron Bowl. Do you challenge that logic?
Same thing for MSU, LSU, Oregon, KY (ugh), UGA, etc....
If he was the X factor then Malzhan's offense is not looking too good is he?

If I said it was Nick Saban would that make a difference?

His offense flourished with a good O line and Chris Todd

The SEC teams hadn't been exposed to it either. It takes a couple years but defenses will figure them out.

That's a shitty learning curve for the rest of the SEC...

You go wash your mouth out with soap. Gus is a great offensive mind. He was undefeated as Offensive coordinator at AR...look what he did for the offense at Tulsa, and last year? He was the mastermind behind so many late scoring drives to win close games.
Not to mention last year Auburn ranked:
3rd in total offense in the country
40th pass offense in the country
3rd in rushing offense in the country
3rd in 1st downs in the country
17th in 3rd down conversions in the country
Gus is great football mind, and he is good at what he does.

There is nothing to figure out. We are a run 1st, between the tackles, play action offense that uses the speed sweep and reverses to keep defenses honest.

so is it for sure malzahn is out?
a new OC and DC will sure be difficult to deal with in one season
