You think the fact that Purdue got dominated in the NC game by UConn last year erased the embarrassment of losing to the #16 seed the year before? I was there and watched it happen with 50k+ Purdue fans…it didn’t.
Only team in recent history that I can remember being able to completely erase an embarrassing 1st round loss was when UVA was able to win the NC the next year. In the process of winning that NC, UVA got absolutely screwed by the refs for 5 minutes straight with about 6 bad foul/no foul calls all benefiting AU and then AU claims a double dribble missed call was the difference in the game. It wasn’t, it was just 1 make up call after a long stretch of beneficial refereeing favoring AU. AU wasn’t the better team at all.
Congrats on being the best team in the country right now. You guys have a truly great team this year. But unless you win the natty, that loss to Yale will still be a hilarious embarrassment that will not go away for a few years. Accomplishments after embarrassments don’t erase the embarrassment…it’s still there. Try not to lose early in this next tourney or it will really start to snowball on Bruce’s NCAAT reputation.
