Then why was he paid the severance package?

Remember JJ said it was the right thing to do.

I'm sure there was no pressure for Shula or others to resign.

Read this.

quote:

Earlier this month, Tommy Tuberville was forced out as the head coach of the Auburn Tigers. A buyout clause in his contract will pay him handsomely, approximately $2.55 million over the next 30 days, and another $2.55 million by the end of 2009. He now joins the growing list of former coaches on Auburn's payroll who no longer work there.

Former Auburn head coach Pat Dye (1981-1992) resigned following a scandal that involved cash payments to a player. He later struck a deal with the school that allowed him to hold a position as a "special consultant" to the football program. There is no official job description, but Dye remains a beloved and colorful figure at Auburn, known for saying whatever is on his mind at the moment. After analyzing one particular game, he told a radio audience that "hindsight is 50/50." Prior to this year's Auburn-Arkansas football game, he appeared at the Little Rock Touchdown Club to tell the assembled crowd that "Auburn and Arkansas—neither one of them are worth a damn." Later he referred to Auburn's archrival Georgia by commenting, "They can score more points by accident than we can score on purpose."

(There is speculation about whether former football coaches Terry Bowden (1993-1998) and Bill Oliver (1998), former basketball coach Cliff Ellis (1994-2004), and two former baseball coaches remain on the Auburn payroll.)

Former offensive coordinator Al Borges (fired in 2007) and his replacement, Tony Franklin (fired during the 2008 season), will continue to receive paychecks from Auburn. Borges will receive a $325,000 salary through the end of 2008, and Franklin will collect $280,000 in 2008 and again in 2009. Tuberville, Franklin, and Borges are therefore receiving $5,985,000 not to coach the Auburn football team.

Not much of a train wreck considering AU has had 5 coaches over the past 50+ years until Chizik. Oh yeah, none of them really wanted to leave AU. Shows what a great place AU is to be a coach. I do not know how many Bama has had since 1950, but it is a hell of a lot more and it has been 10x the "train wreck" to coach at UAT than it is at the superrior state university on the East side of the state.

How did running off a successful coach work for Nebraska? I believe both Auburn and Tenn will follow their path.

Guess we will see. At this point I am happy with the decision. I was not at the time, but Chiz has been doing everything right and we were going in the wrong direction fast the last 1-2 years.
