In 2018.

quote:

The field will feature eight Division I teams for the first time that year. Joining Auburn will be Arizona, Duke, Xavier, Gonzaga, Illinois, Iowa State and San Diego State.

quote:

"The Maui Invitational in the last 25 years has been college basketball’s most prestigious tournament in the country,” Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said in a statement. “It is reserved for the elite. I want to thank Dave Odom and the committee for taking my word on the fact that we would have our program ready and as important, fill up half the gym.

quote:

“That is the requirement to be invited to Maui, you have to fill up half the gym. That’s where we are headed. The field is one of the best they have ever had along with all of the Hall of Fame coaches, every NBA scout and NBA general managers who will be there. It is quite a festival.”

Why would they play football in Maui this time of year?

Long time away, but we should be pretty damn good in '18/19.

Under our current AD, Bruce would be so handcuffed in recruiting that he'd fail miserably.

I honestly can't believe Auburn's AD hasn't handcuffed him either. The fact they've allowed "Bruce's BBQ" media content to be published through the AD is shocking.

I absolutely love it, I just couldn't believe Auburn would ever allow basketball to shift focus from football or call attention to itself.

I don't think you are in a position to do that.

Can we have a Kentucky fan repeat this so we can take it seriously?

Why wouldn't they? I'm sitting here in Maui right now and it's awesome.

Rumors circulating that Barnes has been completely handicapped by Dave Hart in regards to recruiting. I think it's because we carelessly hired Tyndall and had to fire him 9 months later because of a show cause he received at Southern Miss.

It fricking sucks because I think Barnes could recruit like a beast if the handcuffs were taken off.

Here's the bigger problem, even if he sucks so a coach, he could hide it with ace recruiting. Now, when he inevitably gets fired or retires in a year or two, we'll have nothing for the next guy to work with.

That would be a blast. Never been to Hawaii...might be worth checking into.

I don't think he sucks as a coach at all but I do think he under performed with the talent he got, it was a good hire coming from what Tenn was dealing with

Auburn is one of those schools where you legit forget they have a hoops program. Like I can't tell you what their uniforms look like, a single player on your team, and if Pearl wasn't your coach, who your coach is
