I grew up in the North Atlanta suburbs and I currently live in Brookhaven. UGA was a tough school to get into when I was in high school. Auburn was a joke and everyone got accepted. Knew kids that came from families that had three generations of UGA grads. They were so disappointed when their kids had to settle for Auburn, Bama, or Ole Miss.

UGA is a hard school to get into because there are almost 11 million inhabitants. Without a real competing institution for all those graduating seniors in Georgia. It's UGA or Georgia Southern. Well duh. Georgia Tech OTH, is a hard school to even get considered for regardless of your class standing. Graduating seniors in Alabama, a state of 4.5 M. have UA nd AU to choose. South Carolina about the same size has CU and USC. For in state kids Bama is about as tough as UGA to get admitted too because of the crush of out of state kids from Texas, Florida, PA and NY and other urban areas. Because (1) they have done a great job marketing the school to top students out of state (subsidies to generate rich alums and giving and yeah (2) kids are attracted to the sorority/Frat/football party scene and finally (3) they have tons of alums in Pa and NY, particularly among the Jewish populations in those areas.

I went to a private school in Mississippi and all I had to do was sign it and was in UGA, being from out of state it's a joke to get in

You sound like the person we would joke about that would drop out of the curriculum that my friends and I took in the engineering department at AU if I’m being honest. Figure you might make it to sophomore year.

Where? Jackson Prep? Jackson Academy? St. Andrews? I knew several smart kids that went to all three that couldn’t get into UGA. Those are widely believed to be the three best schools in that shitty state. Easily the worst state in the country. Going to Auburn is actually considered an upgrade when you grow up in Mississippi.
