SEC, meet Wendell Green Jr, top freshmen PG in the portal who just committed to Auburn

quote:

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound guard ranked second on the team scoring 15.8 points on 39.6% shooting (36.4% from 3-point range). His five assists per game ranked 48th nationally and second among qualified freshmen behind Saint Joseph's Jordan Hall (5.7).

Green played in 29 for Eastern Kentucky, including 25 starts. He scored 13 or fewer points in nine of his first 10 games, but a 30-point performance against Austin Peay on Jan. 2 started an impressive run to close the season. He scored in double figures in 16 of his final 19 games and topped 20 points 10 times, including in each of his final five games.

His averages during that stretch: 24 points on 41.8% shooting and 4.2 assists

This is going to kill the lower level teams in the future. They will be used like a Jr College.

He's going to make a great candidate for JD Davidson to posterize.

And the media, who championed free transfers and freedom for players, will immediately forget they did that and start wagging their finger at hi-major programs for using the portal that those same media types spoke into existence.

Runt.

DT’s gonna run right over him and kill his QB.

Oh, wait...

Think about the recruiting cost and development cost they spend on a player and then lose them to a higher profile program a year later. Losing them to the NBA is one thing, but something will have to be done in the future with these type players. Maybe locking their scholarship at their new school for 4 years regardless how long they play.

The best pg in the portal and he’s only a freshman. Great piece to have in Bruce’s system the next few years.

Idk man, it's not gonna be easy going to the rim vs Auburn

- Dylan Cardwell, 6'11" and a good defender

- Babatunde "Stretch" Akingbola, 6'8" but looong reach and guarding the rim is kind of his thing

- bringing in Jabari Smith, 6'11" and #5 overall recruit

- 50/50 chance we land Walker Kessler, 50/50 chance JT Thor comes back

He still might. Green was a take either way.

We would play all 3 of Zep Jasper, Wendell Green, and Scoota Henderson if we can

Gonzaga is out. UNC is begging him to stay, but if he leaves it's Auburn

Auburn and UNC aren’t the only schools going after him.

That's a fine list of bigs, especially if the 50/50s work out.

It's always hard to go to the rack and dunk on everyone. I was only kidding because he's listed as 4 inches shorter than Davidson but it looks like a little more.

I'll say, if anyone is going to make some highlight reel dunks, it will be JD Davidson. He's a freak athlete, and an absolute dog. He plays like it's his mission in life to dominate and make his opponents look foolish.

I'm excited about the future of Alabama Basketball, and SEC basketball as a whole.

The problem in the State of Alabama HS is the competition. Getting better, but nowhere near GA and FL.

Solid pick up.

Is JT Thor the only "undecided" y'all have left? I think he could go either way. The NBA is in his future whether it's this year or next in my opinion.

Expecting any transfers? Will anyone need to go to make room for Kessler?

I agree with this, but when JD is also performing well on the AAU circut it's kinda a moot point. You don't become the top ranked point guard just because they see you beat up on weaker competition.
