Smart move by Cohen. Freeze sometimes doesn’t know when to shut up. But let’s have no illusion. He is a really good leader of a program. And he never sexually assaulted anyone. Auburn did the right thing clamping down on his communications. It is a good hire. But what do I know?

The good ole boys at Auburn still want to play the game like it was 40 years ago. The power people at Auburn still want to be in charge and hire a coach that will run the program the way they want it run. That philosophy worked 40 years ago but not today. Alabama had to learn that lesson the hard way. The boosters and power people had made such a mess out of the program that it took those people getting so desperate to win and be relevant again that they finally got smart and gave up all the power they had to hire a top coach to come in and clean everything up. That’s the way it has to be done now. Schools have to identify a great coach and then support him with as much money as they can while letting the coach run the program. It paid off for Alabama and it’s the only way to ever hire a relevant coach with a proven record.
