I absolutely DO have a problem with Saban on the Philon situation assuming he wasn't notified about the greyshirt possibility until last week (or last month for that matter). I think you give preference to commitments that have stuck with your team over last minute signees but that's just me. It's one thing if Philon was told by Saban in early January or earlier that his scholarship would turn into a greyshirt offer if Bama ended up signing an absolute world beater like Eddie Goldman or DBG on signing day. That's a unique sitaution that isn't as bothersome assuming Philon knows for a fact this is that situation and he is fine with it. Assuming that wasn't the case, then I think Saban handled this particular situation poorly.

Overall, I don't have a problem with Saban's recruiting and think he does things within the rules while in almost all cases being fair and upfront with prospects. I do however think he needs to start giving preference to committed players like Philon or cut out the number shuffling from mid January on.
