To be honest, I really wouldn't mind becoming the War Eagles. I would not petition for it, but if it happened I could deal. It would be kind of cool to have a unique mascot. There are too many Tigers in college and pro sports.
Of course if we bacame the War Eagles we would probably have all kinds of hippies protesting against us b/c of the word "war".

If you were asked to sign a petition to change from the Tigers to the War Eagles, would you sign it?
frick no. And I would falcon punch the petition holder. I would also feed the petition in question to the last moron who signed it.

True story. Most people in the nation think AU has an identity crisis.

The LSU Tigers comes from the Louisiana Tigers during the Civil War,

So, yeah, we are the real, "Tigers."
How did Auburn get the nickname, "tigers"?
"Bayou Bengals" is something that out of state announcers call us on broadcasts. Brent Musberger will say it 100 times on Saturday.
You can call us the LSU Tigers or even the LSU Fighting Tigers.

Louisiana Tigers' was the common nickname for certain infantry troops from the state of Louisiana in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. Originally applied to a specific company, the nickname expanded to a battalion, then to a brigade, and eventually to all Louisiana troops within the Army of Northern Virginia. Although the exact composition of the Louisiana Tigers changed as the war progressed, they developed a reputation as fearless, hard-fighting shock troops.

The nickname Louisiana "Tigers" lives on with the athletic teams of the Louisiana State University.
