Firing needs to take place a little higher on the food chain.

Insubordination gets your arse fired quick. Your boss tells you to do something and you don't because you feel "entitled?" I love it and it shows who runs the show

Fired a Fambly member

Actually fired a former Troy WR Coach and replaced him with a Fambly Member (BSU OC).

You have to wonder who thought he would be a good hire in the first place……

Remember when Saban fired Kiffin before the national championship?

How’d that work out?

Neither do most people fire their OC the week before they play for a National Championship.

Sometimes it works out.

That did not work out for Alabama.

I guess Harsin don't mess around....
looks like Harsin means business and demands excellence.

I already thought this, but its surprising to see it like this. Oh well, message sent.

Did he do anything like this when he was the HC at BSU?

I actually agree with this. One man in charge. He is held responsible for losses.

I hate doing year 1 judgements on coaching staffs because often there is a lot of bullshite going on behind the scenes that could be hindering performance.

But I just had a bad vibe about Auburn hiring Harsin. Granted, I’m an Alabama fan so this was a good omen for me. He doesn’t have any real connections to the region. He made a very bad hire at OC in Mike Bobo. Likely to help his staff’s connections to the South but Bobo is not a winner at OC in 2021. There has been no real traction in recruiting and that indicates that his lack of ties to the South is a problem.

This was the same sort of vibe I got about Jim McElwain at Florida. I still think McElwain could end up at power conference program again but I don’t think it will be in the Deep South. He’s the type of guy who ends up coaching at Oregon State or the like in the PNW. He’s from Missoula, Montana. He cracked in Gainesville but he would probably flourish in Pullman.

Similarly, I think Bryan Harsin is a fine enough coach but I doubt he’s ready to have every word and decision dissected like it will be at Auburn. I truly think they’ll have a mutual break up by the end of year 3 when a job like Washington or Washington State opens up. They’ll both be happy to be done with one another and work out a mutually beneficial parting.

Who knows, maybe I’m just rationalizing a way for Auburn to suck a dick. We’ll see.

Oh and the other thing I don’t like about this termination - without knowing all the facts so perhaps this is not valid - is that I don’t think it is a classy thing to terminate a coach midseason. These guys are making good money but they’re often just getting starting so being out of a job for months until the next hiring season in December through February is screwing up their own finances and their families.

Unless he did something fricked up with the NCAA, you just reassign him quietly and let him know he needs to have a plan for what he’s going to do to exit during bowl season. These young guys in the profession shouldn’t get publicly fired like this in most situations. That’s just my feeling. It is essentially how Saban operates. For as big of an a-hole as he can be, he has never outright fired guy…they’ve always had the next job lined up.
