Malzahn was let go because he was continuing his trend of shitty recruiting and development. It's like he didn't knwo that in order to have a good zone read, you also need to have a good O-line to create those holes, or to have a good passing QB he needs to also have the O-line to not crumble every down. The recruiting was shown by the bad numbers even BEFORE he was fired.

Auburn had no choice, Gus stated that a 6-4 season was a solid year in one of his pressers. He was made to come back and retract that statement a day or two later in another presser. He had to go, no matter the cost.
I do believe the USC Game was the cause of his demise. The end of the season statement just pusher it over the edge.
I do remember hearing that and thinking, Did he really just say that? I reconciled also thinking he's beat and that came from exhaustion. Again I stand by my point that 2020 was brutal on all of us and he shouldn't have been let go. Mason at Vandy who had been stinking it up 5-years in a row, frick yea.

I am shocked anyone fired a coach this year under these circumstance. Blame it on the SEC Office. The fact that they refuse to release the numbers of Covid Positive and Contract Tracing for each team and by position contributed to these firings. Fans might be more sympathetic if the knew the entire story. The SEC just wanted to cash the check.
