I've heard recently we could've had Gary Latterson last time but picked Chiz instead

Our last mystery candidate was Gene Chizik.

Exactly. When I hear mystery candidate, I think of it being a name no one has mentioned. Everyone has mentioned Petrino and Fisher.

I'm trying to think of the last coaching search that actually ended up with the team getting someone whose name was thrown out in the beginning. it doesn't happen terribly often. Maybe Notre Dame?

I have a feeling it's Jimbo Fisher. There's so much smoke surrounding him.

Whyvwould you leave the most fertile recruiting state in the country to go and compete with Nick Saban for players/championships every year?

Apparently he's worn out his welcome in Tallahassee

I've heard the Jimbo Fisher rumor- but that just seems like there is no way for that to happen.

If I were an Auburn fan, I wouldn't be excited when mystery candidate is thrown around. I think Alabama's last mystery candidate was Mike Price.

An option enticing enough to change pre-exisitng plans/timeframes on how to remedy Auburn's problems.

As I said before, there are several groups and each has a different road map on how to get to the promised land. There is no consensus. Saying Coach X is the "No. 1 guy" is conjecture on my part (there is no list) but his mere emergence as a possible solution has several groups saying: Oh wow. I'd definitely be on board with that.

I'm not sure.

There's probably a lot of selling of yourself/selling by the school to the candidate as well.
