They wouldn’t be doing their jobs if they didn’t take a run at him.

Interesting statement considering the events of last week.

He is a top 3 coach for sure . But if you think he won’t bolt for the big league MLB you’re crazy .

This is a good comparison. This is probably the only one somewhat similar. But even then it was pre portal & NIL

quote:

Smoke Laval, LSU

Was the HC at Northeast Louisiana first.

quote:

Patt McMahan, MS State

Was the HC at OD first. And he was successful at MSU and got hired by UF next.

quote:

Mitch Gaspard, Alabama

Was the HC at Northwestern State first.

The point about them being HC previously means you know what to expect. There is a sample of expectations.

Maybe point me to a major program who hired internally after their HC walked to another program and it working out. I’ll wait.

I don't think there is a difference between internal vs external. Recent SEC programs who hired an assistant to HC - Wes Johnson is the perfect example. Tony Vitello & Butch Thompson too.

But he was!

In 2021:

Johnson- two trips to Omaha with a finals appearance

Vitello-one trip to Omaha with zero wins

In 2024 Vitello is the better candidate if you have an open position. He wasn’t in 2021

No one batted an eye when ‘Texas going after Vitello’ pre MCWS.
aTm fixed this ‘hitting coach to HC’ w HC Kelly…
& ‘Special Buyout Clause w Schloss going to Texas’ =aTm knew at some level.
aTm could’ve done a lot worse.
