This will be the last year the NCAA oversees the big 6 conferences. The powerful conferences have overtaken the NCAA and rendered it useless as a governing body.

That's what the Aggie 'sources' are saying. Seems like it's a fitting end to it to me, seeing as Miami has broken the NCAA.

As so eloquently put by someone else... First rule of Politics: Never get into a war of words with somebody who buys ink by the barrel.

As an academic I am appalled that the Chancellor is even discussing that matter, much less going on the offensive. This is a topic that essentially has no bearing on his position and technically should be well beneath his need for involvement. I am starting to think that A&M is trying to goad ESPN on purpose to see if they have anything else to report that they are saving for right before the season starts while using people that are for the most part bullet proof from the NCAA.

An academic trying to school (pun intended) a lifelong politician. Sharp clearly stated that he had seen evidence that others are not privy to and then announced that he knows he is innocent.

You can, as an academic, get your panties in a wad all you want, but clearly the man is not scattershooting for enjoyment here. He knows the NCAA has nothing, and it appears there is something going on that is going to bring this ordeal to a halt.

Stick to the books, teach.

Steve Fullhart of KBTX-TV in B/CS apparently tried to reach the NCAA for comment.

quote:

Steve Fullhart ?@stevefullhart 51m

NCAA's response: "Due to rules put in place by our membership, we cannot comment on current, pending or potential investigations."

oldarmy1 responds:

quote:

Taylor ?@oldarmy1 40m

@stevefullhart Tell @NCAA that it's ok. We already know they have closed the investigation. It would help their image to be proactive.

So who fricking knows? Do we believe oldarmy1? Do we err on the side of caution and wait for a release? It would help if oldarmy1 would be a bit more forthcoming with information about how he knows what he knows.

For NBama:

Julie just rolled over and lit up a smoke. Her response:
quote:

“You’ll know when they’re finished.”

I'd be surprised with this much buzz if there weren't some substance.

That's just the thing. I'm not seeing buzz from anywhere but Twitter.

But in this day and age, who knows?

Yeah, the fact that he went on the attack in an official release kinda blew my mind. He's a fricking university official, not some redass in the corps. He's supposed to be buttoned-down and stuffy.

He could have found a way to address the issue, effectively, while simultaneously maintaining his dignity as an administrator.

Why? Like I just said, he has stated that he has seen evidence that others have not (A&M has lawyered up remember) and seems to think ESPN and Rovell are full of shite and said as much. Sorry you don't like it, but ESPN chose to break a story they have been sitting on for some time, right before the season, with nothing but bullshite anonymous sources. After the Teo saga, and the fact that Rovell has been made a fool before, they deserved to be called out.

If the chancellor of the Texas A&M system won't stick up for his university, then he doesn't deserve to be there.

Rant: "why doesn't A&M just say he didn't do it if he's innocent?"

Chancellor Sharp: "He didn't do it."

Rant: "I am appalled at the unprofessionalism! How dare he stoop so low as to comment on athletics!!!!111111one"

Without full understanding of the context. Tbird and I had a rather long conversation on the matter the other night -- one of the only civil conversations which has been had on the subject, I might add -- and the direct quote you responded to was only a piece of it, smart guy.

I think A&M just took the Auburn strategy with the idiots in Indy, and said prove it or GTFO.

Smart play by A&M, IMO.

I feel the same way about the NCAA and I'm not mad. And I want to see Moiselle play this season. It's just that the NCAA has become way too political and more of a problem than a solution.

I didn't mean to suggest that you read the entire thread, simply the conversation between Tbird and I held within the last several pages.

ETA: Wait, I think it was on the other thread which was started.
