Bilas is a big advocate for paying college athletes. Of course he would be all over anything that supports that agenda.

You frickers kill me trying to crucify the NCAA and ESPN. College football would be shite without both
I don't get the crucify ESPN angle but the NCAA angle I can agree with to an extent. Mostly it's the smaller schools majority votes that are holding back the big boys

Jay Bilas just exposed the NCAA for what they are...money making machine off the backs of college kids
No. He didn't. Because they sign an agreement with a full list of what they can and cannot do and can and cannot have.
If they want anything beyond that, then they should try out for the CFL, or AFL or NFL straight out of high school.
They can then pay for:
Their own weight rooms or membership to a gym.
Their own spa.
Their own game rooms.
Their tuition, books, board and supplies, and tutors if they want to go to school while playing professionally.
Their own meals.
Their own health care.
Their own doctors.
Their own nutritionists.
Perhaps they can still get Pell Grants.

Booster A: Kid, I'd like to offer you a website where you can sell your autographed items for $1,000 each.
Booster B: Kid, don't listen to that slime from North Carolina a&t. I'll get you your own catalogue and sell your items for $1500 each.
Booster C: Kid, both those two aholes are goofy. Just sign my wife's left tit and I'll give you $100k. (Bama booster obviously)
It gets real out of control real quick if you let them sell their autographs and other items.

So now all the TAMU fans are going to jump on the "college players should get paid" bandwagon. Whatever works, I guess. And I agree for what it's worth.
for what its worth, I have believed that for a while now

Yeah they get enough, imo. If they want anything else, they can set up some sort of pension that is contingent upon graduating.

It's because the smaller schools can't afford college athletics if it turns into a professional league or minor league for the NFL/NBA, which is what the big boys want

This is about a player breaking the rules, not whether the rules are fair or not...
Spot on! Even though many don't agree with the rules it doesn't mean you should break them or if you do then there shouldn't be a punishment.
Just like the BCS whining that took place . Everyone agreed to the rules prior to those season.

Most sense anyone has made in this thread.
Paying athletes in college or letting them get compensated is a slippery slope.
Would not be much longer until we see high school recruits getting bid on like a cattle auction.

It's just a matter of time.

A lot of them are paid under the table now.
Every single FBS school probably has at least 20 guys minimum taking money.
I don't see how being open about it would suddenly make it a minors NFL b/c, again, IT ALREADY IS.

The NCAA wouldn't be able to regulate it and it instantly becomes an un-level playing field for schools who don't have those boosters.
It is already an un-level playing field. You think Rice will ever win a championship?
