Article - Why I dislike Alabama Fans.

1. There's an excuse for everything.
I remember observing Auburn fans during their miserable run between Terry Bowden and Tommy Tuberville's tenor and the statement I heard most often was, "We're just terrible right now" or something similar. In the last 8 years, I have heard every reason conceivable to man why Alabama is horrible including "scholarships being cut", "If Brodie hadn't been hurt", "We had a bad coach", and it just keeps going. Those are great excuses, but the reason Alabama is losing so much is that they're just not good. Case closed.
2. They don't quit talking.
Now this is just me, but if my team had been beaten 6 years in a row by my archrival - I would like to think that somewhere around year 3, I would just shut up. I remember last season when Alabama had beaten Tennessee and Auburn was coming off its poor start against South Florida and Mississippi State and you would have thought that the last 5 years had just not happened. Of course, that was weeks before that all-inspiring $4 million dollar 7-6 finish. I will say that after the UL-Monroe debacle, they did go into hiding for a few hours, but the next day the NASCAR stadium was full and beers were still being sold so you knew they were alive and kicking.
3. They refuse to deal with facts.
It's simply insane if you take the time to do any research at all how ludicrous and subjective The University of Alabama's football tradition really is. Consider these facts, and because it seems to really bother Alabama fans, I will use Auburn in my comparisons: In my lifetime of almost 30 years, Alabama is 13-16 against Auburn. In that same period of time, Auburn has won more SEC Championships, been undefeated twice, and beaten Alabama more times than they've lost. Do

2008 - 30 = 1978
So, We'll use 1978 as the basis for this argument.
I'll actually give you the Win/Loss except it's actually 14-16 not 13-16.
On your SEC Championships:
Alabama
Sec Champions - 1978, 1979, 1992, 1999
Sec Co-Champions - 1981, 1989
Alabama 6 SEC championships - 4 outright , 2 shared
Auburn
Sec Champions - 1983, 1987, 2004
Sec Co-Champions - 1988, 1989
Auburn 5 SEC championships - 3 outright, 2 shared
So, that point is no longer an argument. You can't even make this one true even in talking about divisional championships, because you have:
Alabama
SEC West Champions - 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1999
5 divisional
Auburn
SEC West Champions - 1997, 2000, 2004
3 divisional

As a CPA, you should know that if you're going to post numbers and claim they are "facts", then you better make sure you've "done broke out his media guide and counted up everything"....or else you'll get called on it.
Nice job MJ...
(( BTW, whats the National Championship difference in your time frame?))

my favorite, when asking a Bama fan what the intangible is that, with everything else being equal, makes them believe they are on their way back to the top and everyone else is about to fall, they answer "because we're Bama"
as far as the delusion factor goes, I heard a bama fan on the radio a couple of days ago say that LSU having to top returning defensive line this year is further proof that Nick Saban is leading Bama back to the top...

This is a very poor arguement for Bama.
Bama has been a NC contender once since 1979. AU has been a contender 4 times. 1983, 1988, 1993, 2004.
In 1988, the LSU loss kept AU from a title shot. The other three years, AU should have been voted NC in 83, was the only undefeated team in 1993, and we all know about 2004.
So on the field AU has been in the running or had a legit claim several times. Bama once. You really can't make much of a case that Bama has outperformed or even equalled the number of championship calibre teams in that time frame because it is 3 or 4 to 1. Bama was just fortunate the 1 championship team they put on the field compared to AU's multiples came in a year where the cards fell right for them to get the often subjective votes to have a shot.

The guy is obviously starting to count at 1979.
Head-To-Head - Auburn leads 16-13
SEC Champs - Auburn - 3 Outright, 2 Co-Champs
Bama - 3 outright, 2 Co-Champs
NCs - Bama - 2 (1979, 1992)
-Auburn - 0
Undefeated Seasons - Bama - 2 (1979, 1992)
Auburn - 2 (1993, 2004)

Well, as for me I said "since 1979" so that would be starting in 1980. Of course it is one of those picking your timeframe where as if you start in 1978, it is a little different story...

What are you basing your claim to having a legit shot at a title? Being in the top 10 at the end of the year?
If so then from 78-present (nice round number of 30)
Alabama finished in top 10 - 11 times
1. '78
2. '79
3. '80
4. '81
5. '86
6. '89
7. '91
8. '92
9. '94
10. '99
11. '05
Auburn finished in top 10 - 9 times
1. '83
2. '86
3. '87
4. '88
5. '89
6. '93
7. '94
8. '04
9. '06
What about top 5?
Alabama finished in top 5 - 5 times
1. '78
2. '79
3. '91
4. '92
5. '94
Auburn finished in top 5 - 3 times

No. Finishing the year with a legit claim to an NC, shot at an NC, or a case for being the best team in the country subect to the subjective voting BS that is college football.
1983 - AU best team in country. Period.
1988 - AU lost one game in the eartquake game in a game LSU did not cross midfield all night. One last second 4th down td pass kept AU from playing ND for the championship.
1993 - Claim to POSSIBLY being the best team in the country as the ONLY undefeated team (and in the SEC no less playing FL, UGA, LSU, Bama that yr).
2004 - no need to explain.
Now, care to show me where Bama had a claim as the best team in the country outside of 1992 since 1980?

Is there a record book for "having a shot at a title?" Win one please. I love how Auburn fans like to conveniently use dates that benefit them. Why can't we start 1 year earlier in '79? The fact is that Auburn hasn't won a NC since '57. Neither you nor I have been alive to witness an Auburn football NC and I'm going to assume it will be the same way when we both die.

Winning a national title seems to be hard whenever you have a national title caliber team and you don't win it because a force outside of your hands decides you aren't good enough. But, then again, if we claimed titles like Alabama fans do, we could say we won a couple of titles since 1957.

If you claimed titles like Alabama did we'd still have a helluva lot more than you. It's not Alabama's fault that your program doesn't command enough respect to make it to the big stage.

I can see the undefeated seasons as a legit claim (even though 93 was a probation year for Auburn if I'm not wrong)
the other two looks as though you are basing them merely off of only 1 loss the whole season or one loss and then a loss in the bowl game. since it looks like we're doing that, then we'll say
1989 - only loss in reg season was to auburn, then lost bowl game to miami
1991 - only loss was to florida and came early in the year (2nd game)
1992 - no need to explain
1994 - only loss was to florida in sec championship game
2005 - throwing this one in because had we not lost to lsu and then auburn we would have been hyped (there was tons of hype for bama this year)

So in 2004 Bama would have been playing in the NC if they were in AU's situation? Whatever moron. If you disagree about '04 which you indicated in your previous statement, back it up.

You think Notre Dame gets left out in '04?
