Call me a liar. Here's a youtube video to prove it:

I know I did not watch it. I was listening to it on the radio. I do not remember the circumstances why that occurred, though. I attended the other games.

I do remember my feelings around the game, however. They were not good. Cost the team a shot at the national championship, although with that kind of shellacking, it's not like it was a play here or there. Just a complete beatdown.

A&M started cheating in the 80s and that game became more important after Arkansas went to the SEC in 1991.

That’s nice of you to think of A&M in a thread about Arkansas.

You called it - A&M Started cheating. Texas was already cheating. If cheating is the term you use for paying players…

So A&M started cheating to compete with the same firepower. It worked well in recruiting, and A&M whipped that arse on the field. So Texas cried to the NCAA about it…

So I guess the moral to the story is really that having a guy on the inside of the enforcement committee pays more than cheating pays.

But yeah, I agree, Arkansas was originally a bigger Rival for Texas dating back to the history in the 60s.

It wasn’t a direct reason(publicly, anyway), but it sure played a role in his performance. Like going to Vegas instead of recruiting. Pittman didn’t leave for no reason.
