2 players though that were recruited and signed by Nutt. So he should at least get credit for those guys.
Never understand why Arkie fans always say that. Nobody ever says Miles only won because of Jamarcus Russell or Saban only won because of Mark Ingram.
Nutt straight up inked those guys. They didn't have to sign with Arkansas.
McFadden, Jones, and you can throw Hillis in there as well were big Hog Fans and would have likely signed with Arkansas regardless of who the coach was. But, here is an interesting story about the recruitment of Matt Jones.
Jones had long indicated that he wanted to come to Arkansas but during one of his recruitment conversations with then QB Coach Joe Ferguson, Joe basically told him that he didn’t have what it took to be a pro QB and would be better served at WR or TE. Jones apparently didn’t like that so he committed verbally to OU. About a week or two after Matt’s verbal to the Sooners, Joe Ferguson resigned and Jones “flipped” to the Hogs.
As a side note Ferguson tenure with Nutt was probably going to be short lived anyway because he thought Nutt was a complete dumb arse, especially when it came to QB development, and Nutt had a real problem with Joe encouraging QBs to call audibles against Nutt’s wishes. All those audibles Clint Stoerner frequently called were because of Ferguson and it pissed Nutt off to no end.

But they still could have not liked Nutt and gone elsewhere. A lot like Dyer and Petrino's catfight.
With Dyer, I think it's because Petrino has almost made it a point not to go after in-state players unless he feels like they are legit talent, not simply because they're borderline FBS talent. I think the same thing applies to Kiehl Frazier.
I'm not justifying the fact that we're starting to lose out on a big in-state prospect year after year, but I am really enjoying us branching out into other areas in order to get kids.
As much as I dislike Nutt, I do have to give him credit for Felix Jones. The guy was an absolute stud.

That credit goes to Bobby Allen. Nutt told Allen to quit wasting his time with Jones because he didn't think Arkansas could land him. Allen insisted that Arkansas keep recruiting him and the rest is history.

Miles and Saban won and are winning w/o each those players, Nutt didn't. He gets minimal credit for keeping instate talent at home. If they were from Texas, Cali, Fla, I'd give him credit.

It didn't hurt that Arkansas offered him as a RB while 0U and Tenner thought he would be better suited as a DB.

Is it ironic that 0U wanted him to be a WR?

If OU would have offered Felix, he wouldn't have been a HOG.

I think your math may be off....but I get your point.
About 14 years or so as I recall.
Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson were on the '64 NC team, I know Nutt played on the '78 team that beat BlowU in the Orange Bowl under Lou (the lisp) Holz. Nutt got into the game in mop up duty late.

A side bar to this discussion of Nuttsac.....He was being groomed to take over the AD job at Arkansas, Arkansas born and raised a yes sir man to Frank.
One more reason for the infamous "2 year pass".
Oh BTW, hasn't Nuttsac had a higher recruiting class @ OM than CBP has had @ Arkansas.....
Nutt, less with more.

That would have been the shits and would have made me switch teams. I would have never supported the Hog program again had that sorry sack of NuttShit become AD.

I'll never forget the day I drove through Arkansas as Nutt was leaving the hogs. The radio shows were going nuts and the hate was so thick.

Most of us were relieved but when I found out where he was headed, it didn't sit well with me. I really believed it would lead to more disappointment on their end. If/when he does leave Ole Miss, I don't think it will be as easy for him to get another job like he was fortunate enough to get at Ole Miss. Now, there's much more awareness.

Before we give Nutts to much credit for inking Felix, we only got him because Nutt's first choice, Roy Upchurch, signed with Bama....

On a related note, the day after Chancellor White's press conference, I was at the corner of Garland and Maple on my way to the liquor store and saw Houston Nutt in his truck at the red light on his way home. He actually had a box of his stuff in the passenger seat. It was a strange occurrence, and he refused to do anything but keep his eyes on the road straight ahead. He could feel the eyes burning holes through the car.
Also, side note, I remember reading a comment from Peyton Hillis during Nutt's flirtation with Nebraska. To paraphrase, he said he was committed to the University of Arkansas, not the coach. Like someone said before, it's hard to explain to everyone else the pressure to attend Arkansas and, usually, the desire the in-state kids have to play here. Too bad the state doesn't put out the same level of D-I talent as Mississippi or Louisiana, or we'd be in a much better strategic position.
