quote:You seem well-intentioned, but just incorrect. Voters don't care if Arky was missing a left tackle 2 months ago. Every team has injuries. The votes don't fluctuate so drastically on a week-to-week basis, especially when you have a 3-way tie. I know most Bama fans have tried to forget that November 5th actually occurred, but shite - it was 16 days ago man!
My reasoning is that if it's truly about the entire body of work, Arky would obviously be the hot team and improving, who's only loss was to Bama early in the year with a bunch of injuries.

being "hot at the end of the season" is a different and often opposite argument from the "body of work" argument
but you can argue arky is the hottest team (I disagree but thumping Tenn and beating LSU would be a two game "hot streak") - that would allow you to overlook a few meh performances (ranging from ole miss and vandy to A&M and Bama)

Do you discount the thumping of USCe and MSU? We dont seem to get any credit for destroying these teams.

you are right, it is a five game hot streak (not a two game hot streak) that they would be looking at if they beat LSU
which supports the hottest at the end of the season argument but obviously not the body of work argument

I think this is my basis for argument. I think a lot of voters are more concerned with, "What have you done for me lately?" A win in September isn't as impressive as a win in November. NOT saying I agree with them, but I think that's entirely possible. You could absolutely have a large portion of voters pick Arkansas over Bama, should they win in LSU. I think it's all dependent on how close the game is.
If Arkansas somehow wins by 2 td's? I think they'll be ranked 1st in the coaches poll and garner a substantial portion of the 1st place votes. Win by a td or less? I think it's more likely that Bama goes 1, Arkansas 2, LSU 3 and the 1st place votes are split rather sporadically.

Brad Edwards: I'm having difficulty coming up with a scenario by which Arkansas could win the 3-way tie. I think the Hogs' best chance to win the West is for Auburn to beat Alabama. The problem is that LSU is so much stronger than Arkansas in the computers (even with one loss), that if LSU falls to 3 in the polls and Arkansas moves up to 2, LSU would still finish ahead in the BCS because of those computers. Mirrors what y'all bashed LSUMatt for saying
#2 is fine. IDGAF about SEC championship if we go to the BCSCG w/o playing in it
Is this hard to understand?

I don't see a scenario in which we can win the SEC, either.
...but I can see us winning a National Championship. BCS is messed up.

You have a much better chance at the BCS NC than the SECCG.

Which is why I don't get how this has turned in to an 8 page thread.
According to Bama and LSU fans at the end of the day it's only about how much crystal you have in your trophy case.

Yes, if Bama wins we have no chance at SEC. We just need to win Friday and let it play out

Obviously, since you don't understand what you just quoted. Ark would be #2 in the human polls. LSU's computer score would push them ahead of Ark to be #2 in the BCS. Thus the "LSU would still finish ahead in the BCS" part.

We're one game away from it. I'm finishing my coffee. Enjoying my coffee.

I still don't think it's that cut and dry. Arkansas could, theoretically, beat LSU by 28 points on Friday and convince the majority of pollsters to vote them as the clear #1.
I think that's about as likely as me somehow waking up rich and famous tomorrow morning, but it's not impossible.

if arky beats LSU, bama loses to auburn, and ok state loses to OU I think arky would make it to the NCG
otherwise I don't see how they have a chance

This alone puts them in.
(The quoted puts Arky in the SECCG, so long as they don't blow that)

More talk from Brad Edwards. He seems to be 100% on board with what most logical people on here have been saying since Monday. Arkansas really needs Auburn to win on Saturday. Or Georgia to beat LSU in the SECCG.
quote:
“The more I look at it, the more I’m convinced that it would take a pretty unlikely scenario for LSU to fall out of the (BCS) top two with a loss.
“The computer advantage for LSU over Arkansas would be enormous. Arkansas would need to beat LSU so convincingly that most of the voters would move Arkansas to No. 1 over an Alabama team that beat them by 24 points (38-14 on Sept. 24), and almost every single voter would have to drop LSU to No. 3. If Arkansas is on average one spot better than LSU in the polls, I don’t think that would be enough for them to hold on because of LSU’s computer edge.”

The only way Ark is in any BCS game is if Ark beats LSU and bama loses to auburn.

Naw if LSU loses to both Arkansas and Georgia that is another way.
