Are There Any Examples of Boosters Running an Athletics Department Successfully?

There are many examples of epic failures when boosters and alumnus meddle in athletic departments. Whether operating independently to “recruit” players or dictating to ADs which coaches to hire and fire, a number of schools have faced the consequences. Alabama almost got the death penalty. SMU did get the death penalty. Auburn has gotten burned by both and are currently in Yella Fella hell. We have seen it at many SEC schools to some degree. Letting fans/boosters manage roosters and choose coaches never seems to work out in the long run.
Can anyone provide examples of it working out?

The question is: Are there any examples of booster/fans meddling that actually worked out for a school long term?

Not as much as knowing you are 0-2 against him.

That was apparently a fireable offense.

Auburn and Alabama have combined for like 27 championships so I think we're doing alright.

In this age boosters are especially important. But as our own Golesh says, let them know to check their expectations at the door. But, we were able to pull what, 9 football natties even when they meddle?
