That's part of it.

They're an agriculture school.

They had a barn right behind the stadium for as long as the stadium had been there.

Back in the day, cows would graze on the grass right outside the stadium.

How does "Barner" relate to a fire in your mind?

Absolutely not. It goes back to Bear calling us the "cow college."

No. Auburn Polytechnic Institute was set up to be for farmers, etc, hence cow college. You go to the barn to learn about cows.

You didn't know? Farm animals roam the halls of AU and you must walk through cow pastures in order to get to class.

AU, in a sense, is one very large barn.

In fairness, the cows still aren't very far from main campus. My next Auburn tshirt purchase will probably be the "cow college and proud of it" shirt.

This is from the Encyclopedia of Alabama, "Courtesy of Auburn University"

There's a reason Coach Bryant referred to Auburn as "the cow college". It wasn't because he was feeling super creative.

My degree from UA College of CBA taught me enough to make enough money to retire at 50

I always thought it was because it worked ... "Aubarn" by simply changing one letter, made it easy, it fit with the whole ag school thing.
