You had better seasons in 1910, 12, 13, 14, 17 and 22 in the "up to early 20s" range (all but 2 were within 2 wins of each other). In 1908, 09, 15, 16, 19 and 21 the teams had essentially identical records. Alabama had the better record in in 1911 and 1920. (I stopped at 1922 because 1923 was the start of a 9 year run where Alabama was significantly better than Auburn).
I want to note that we are now comparing the accomplishments of the 1910-1920's Think about that for at least 1 minute.

I was thinking the same thing!....not that there's anything wrong with that.

The only goal of auburns team each year to beat Bama - if they know that losing every game would allow them to beat Bama they would. They work on Bama prep every week of the season. I don’t fault them because if you can beat the best then you are pretty damn good. I do think if the iron bowl would stop being yearly their program would become bottom feeder. But they would never let that happen. It is funny that in Alabama air in gets equal time and attention in the state media - the second you leave the state you never hear a peep about them.
I’m sure you would have posted the exact same diatribe in the 1970s.

The iron bowl went into hiatus when Bama became dominant on the national scene. Playing that game at JHS has been a problem as well. We seem to just not have it in that stadium. Bama hasn't won there since 2015 and has lost 3 of the last 4 there. It's the most intense rivalry in sports as well, which tends to create, for whatever reason, tighter games.

No, AU was a power in 1908-1920.

But it is a factor of the total number of wins. People want to think in modern terms during those gap years. Truth is Vandy was a National power during that period, time were different and the power wasn't with those traditional teams.

The same standard could be used for Auburn during most of the years between 35-49. Again, AU wasn't competitive only really during the 24-32 years.

Do you mean "API was a power in 1908-1920?" Because there was no AU until 1960.

No, 10K were sold to members of a Legion Field Group that got tickets to any event held there. Many were members of City Hall and local Chamber of Commerce and a vast majority were Bama fans..
I haven't read the whole thread so I'm not sure if this has been mentioned so I'll mention it. The main reason Alabama LOVED Legion Field wasn't the big money friends and corporate and business contacts that Bryant and Bama also had in B-Ham.
It was the recruits, recruits, recruits. There were high schools in Bham at that time that had more students than some whole counties in Alabama did.
And kids in Birmingham loved to play for Bryant. That is and always was the driving factor to stay in Birmingham; it was a fricking goldmine.

Is this supposed to be some massive "gotcha" moment?
