Let me see if I understand your stance. A guy going into his 15th year at a school is experiencing his FIRST off season where a bit of uncertainty is in the air about whether or not one of the QBs on roster can get the job done. This same guy has coached Charlie award, Chris Weinke at FSU and at least 4 very accomplished QBs at UGA. Two of whom set SEC records in their time. Two of whom won SEC championships....one as a first year starter. One who was a 1st pick in the NFL draft. On top of that, he has the nations top HS QB from WASHINGTON Locked down since his sophomore year.

Does this make him a guru? I don't know but he has been as good as anybody over 15 years at recruiting and grooming QBs.

It's a pretty memorable thread (though the sticky has a lot to do with its notoriety)

What about some of the QBs he developed at FSU? I love busting UGA fans abt his overall under achievements but he knows the QB position.

Never considered him a quarterback guru considering Auburn coaches have produduced twice the number of starting NFL quarterbacks as Richt has at Georgia

You could have 5 times as many. Doesn't change the fact that you had Brandon Cox. Not Richt's fault some of his QBs didn't have NFL size/arms, nor do I imagine he cares considering the production they gave him. Do you think Cam is starting in the NFL because of Gene?

I've always considered him to be one of the better developers of QBs in the SEC. Even the guys who aren't blue chip guys like Mason will be solid for him.
It takes a reputation to even get those highly rated QBs onto your campus in the first place.

Cam could be used as Exhibit A to prove what a moron Richt is. Best quarterback to come from the state of Georgia during the lifetime of most posters on this board and Saint Richt recruits him as a tight end lol

So did alot of other schools....Richt knows QB's. Probably why he is consistent at UGA and wins a good amount of games every year. The QB play is solid most of the time

What Dick Leverage said.

David Greene (2000) wasn't even recruited by Richt.

Why would it matter who recruited him?

Honestly? I think he is overrated as a head coach.

With the talent UGA has had under Richt, there is no excuse for not having at least 2 NCs and probably more.

Yeah that dude is trolling pretty hard. He can't even say yes or no to the question. So does the head coach take credit or the qb coach? B/c while Richt was at FSU he gets the credit as the qb coach, but at UGA he gets the credit as the Head Coach and not M Bobo the qb coach. Sounds legit

Richt milked 25 touchdown passes out of Joe Cox for Christ's sake. Richt definitely has his flaws as a coach, but this isn't one of them. Troll harder.

ETA: I think Bobo is a very good/great QB coach too, but Bobo didn't produce prolific offenses with stud QBs like Danny Kanell and Thad Busby. Richt has turned some shite QBs into productive college players.

Thats the point, Richt has had some great talent, 3 5* at UGA all ranked as top 1 or 2 qb and those guys do good. But the lower ranked guys, he can't coach them up. H Mason could only connect w/ 10 yard passes last season, and Gurley had the longest pass last year too

I agree w/ your statement that when Richt has top end talent at the qb level, they produce. But when Richt has bottom talent, then they are just avg at best. A qb guru would do much better w/ the scrubs.

I don't think Richt could coach McElroy to a NC so I see what you are saying.
