Good Lord. Urban Meyer is now tGOAT, but how did he allow his team to lose at home to a team that ended the season 7-6? VT also only had two players selected in the NFL draft with one in the sixth and one in the seventh, so it's not like that was a talented VT team.

My post was not suppose to be a comparison of Saban vs Meyers, it was intended to show the evolution in coaching since Saban became a HC. Prior to him, coaches were graded on their Xs and Os, and let recruiting take care of itself. He changed that when he went to LSU, where he was able to keep the great LA players in state. Meyers was know as a Great Offensive mind (Utah), who at FL did not have to worry about recruiting. At OSU he has to do both, which is the next phase of the coaching evolution.

Saban has also done both. If you follow Alabama recruiting at all, you will notice that there isn't enough talent in-state to supply both programs. Saban had to recruit to a place that wasn't exactly a desirable location for recruits when he first started here.
Saban also had to coach his system into our players. Not every five star comes in knowing how to play, and some never do. I agree that Saban's defenses have been a little less intimidating due to the lack of substitution with the HUNH, but I haven't seen one coach that has consistently defended both HUNH spread and pro-style offenses.

Since 11 random guys and plays drawn in dirt aren't required skills I guess Saban does ok.
Its called hyperbole. My point is that Saban is not a playcalling "guru." His strength isn't grabbing a clipboard and drawing up a play like Malzahn would do. He's not going to outcoach someone purely on strategy. Doesn't mean he sucks or even average at it but he delegates that stuff for a reason.

Well seeing as Saban is a defensive minded coach and Meyer/Malzahn are offensive I fail to see why we're comparing who can "draw up a play" better on a clipboard.
Saban's blitz packages are among the best and the game is catering more to offenses than defenses these days. He just happens to be of the philosophy that is currently behind in the trend IMO.
Nobody is a better recruiter and nobody has sustained success as well as him though. Malzahn and Meyer both inherited programs that were either prepped with plenty of talent, or preset for their system. Saban gained a dumpster fire and turned it into a consistent program that has had its hand in the championship one way or another just about every single year since 2008.

Winners love winners. Saban hates average. Makes sense for him to be a fan of by far the greatest professional baseball organization of all time.
People with a competitive advantage love other people with a competitive advantage. Saban hates a level playing field. Makes sense for him to be a fan of the baseball organization with the most astronomical payrolls of all time.

With a ride like that, no doubt Saban's having a fricking blast.

From watching Saban leave the parity of the NFL for all of the competitive advantages at The University of Alabama?
