some offenses are referred to as a "system"

what would you define as a "system" ?

Seems to me that if it's a high scoring offense it gets referred to as gimicky or a system. Even to the point that "it doesn't take talent to play QB in ____ offense, they're just a product of the system"

Sounds like excuses to me.

posts here on the rant:

quote:

You could put any QB in Sumlin's system and he could put up ridiculous numbers

quote:

Do you think Manziel would have put those numbers up at USC last week? If so when are you guys gonna admit it's the SYSTEM not the player

quote:

Kenny Hill is a system QB

I'm sure there are plenty of similar threads about Auburn's offense

I've always assumed a "system" was used when it doesn't really matter the player change, they keep performing at the same level. If you have five different QBs go through a program or coach and they all put up similar numbers... then it's a system and not the players that are excelling.

But that's just my opinion.

Gus has had a 1k rusher every year he has coached college ball...and that's ok.

You don't think JFF or Keenum could've done what Hill did last week?

Do you think Sumlin could recruit a wishbone or option quarterback, plug them in, and get the same results out of this offense?

TAMU is definitely a system offense. But it takes a special player at QB to complete it, much like Kenny Hill.

Do you think Sumlin is so stupid that he would do that? He recruits players that will fit his system... and why wouldn't he?

it's a system, right? doesn't matter who the QB is, right?

again, for reference:

This is kind of my train of thought.

We are a system. Our system is to create space to allow our talent to outmatch the opponents, one on one.

Our system is only decent when we don't have an it factor QB. A winner. A Bradford, Keenum, Manziel, and now hopefully a Kenny.

Thank god Sumlin is better at developing his QB's for his system than most other coaches. Because with him, I don't think we will ever lack the talent at the position.

Why would he recruit a type of QB that wouldn't fit into his system? Yes it's a plug-and-play system but you get the right type of guy in there.

Explain how KH is special for Sumlin's offense. What makes him a "fit" for it?

Do you think Blake Sims could effectively be our QB? Brandon Allen? Jeff Driskel?
