Question answered. Thanks Harvey...glad you and your friends are able to keep a football game in perspective.
I really don't want to get into an argument. You seem like a nice enough fella, but don't talk about keeping a game in perspective when your fanbase is still crying over some trees that just so happen to get rolled after a victory. I believe my attitude towards the football game is completely healthy. I enjoy the game. I like to watch and cheer on my team. The other shite doesn't mean too much to me.
Me not caring about what one idiot did to some trees doesn't mean I don't have football in perspective. It means I have it in perfect perspective. I'm here for the game and to watch the sport. The rest of the stuff just really doesn't mean that much to me. It's just window dressing.
I just don't see why I should apologize for or care about what someone else did.

I just think the whole "time heals all wounds" aspect takes hold here with them. It's become almost funny to a lot of them over time. Almost like time has blurred the idiocy of what this dipshit did. Kind of funny watching them rationalize what occurred because of Auburn's title last year.

I agree. It is pathetic. I get aggravated when I see people (mainly Aubies) talk about we all have crazies. Yeah, maybe we do. But it is VASTLY disproportionate between the fanbases. There really is a difference between the fan bases as a whole and has been for a long time IMO.

I'm not. At least not right now on this subject in particular. You can talk to me if you want.

This is fricking bullshite asshat. If Aubies had blown up or bulldozed all your lil statues you would have forgotten about it by now?

No, but if you are a bama grad (highly doubtful) you do not want him being seen as representative of your university. However, it appears you do not have a problem with his actions. Therefore you appear to condone the action by not having any apparent care or concern for his vandalism of something MANY care a great deal about.

I'm not asking for your apology for what someone else did. What I'm calling into question is the fake indignation that a lot of the fanbase has for Updyke when they minimize what he did. To say that he doesn't represent the fanbase in one breath, but use your next breath to say it's only trees and Bama fans don't give a shite about "just a couple trees that y'all were killing anyways" rings hollow. Take a stand either way.

I don't have any doubt that there would have been public outcry. The offender would have been prosecuted for vandalism and made to pay (as much as they could) to replace the damaged items. At that point, the matter would have been settled for me. I wouldn't hold an entire fanbase responsible for the actions of one.

You are correct. I did not attend the University of Alabama. When I was 18 I chose to go elsewhere for my education. You see, my mother and several other members of my family were and are in faculty and staff positions. I didn't want Mom dropping by after she finished her classes whenever she felt like it. I will most likely get my MBA from there at some point in the future.
I don't make apologies for the actions of others. I've already said what he did was stupid, especially for a grown man, but his punishment is for the courts to decide. I have nothing to do with it.
Honestly, I find the whole thing silly.

Ok. I will take you at your word here.

Herein lies the rub. That is fair and I would not either had the vast majority of bama fans condemned the action with sincerity. That has not been the case AT ALL.

Fair enough.

On that we can agree. I never fake indignation, and I don't like when others do it. Alabama fans were and are embarrassed to be associated with Updyke because he is a fricking idiot.

I don't see where these two attitudes are mutually exclusive. Updyke is not representative of the fanbase, but I just can't muster up much in the way of caring about what he did. I never thought people would still be discussing this over a year later. It was the act of an idiot.
I don't think any Bama fan (Superman excluded) really wanted to kill the trees, but what do Auburn fans really want? Even if the apologies had been at their most sincere, would they have believed them?

I think sincere condemnation of the act would have been enough (and people are smart/intuitive enough to tell the difference). With social media and message boards, it is clear that large (if not majority) portion of bama fans were not sorry, condoned it privately, and found it amusing and many in a sick way actually sympathized with updyke and felt it was somehow justified.

Here's my take on the situation (for what it's worth).
I couldn't care less about the trees. Never have, never will. Which is why I think it's so stupid that someone poisoned them in the first place.
I mean, if Auburn wants to celebrate by rolling their oak trees, why should I (or any other Bama fan) care? They're Auburn's trees, they can do what they want. It doesn't affect me. But apparently it affected that dumbass Updyke enough to take action.
I (and many other Bama fans, I'd wager) are only angry because Updyke made all of us look bad. Let's face it, Bama didn't need any more help in that area.
So I have never pretended to be sorry for the trees. I'm just sorry that idiot gave us a black eye. I couldn't care less about the trees. That being said, he had no right to destroy someone else's property, especially out of spite. I have no sympathy for him if he goes to jail.
And if these idiots really try to roll the trees Saturday night, I hope they get beat down (and they will).

Super late to this OP, and haven't read any of the thread...but is this for real?

I REALLY hope not. Hell, I won't be anywhere near Toomers Corner that night, regardless of outcome.
