My issue with American athletes on the international stage has nothing to do with how gay they are or are not. It's that they choose to use that platform for whatever bullshite political statement they want to make, rather than proudly representing their country. I'd feel the same way if they went out there wearing shirts that promoted gun ownership or were against abortion. The issue isn't whether or not I agree with them. The issue is that they choose to take a platform where the "united" part of "United States" should be celebrated, and instead use it to make divisive statements that not all Americans agree with.

The post you responded to was an answer to the question you posted in response. Read it again.
But to humor you, would you be cool with an American athlete using the platform of international sports to promote, say, white supremacism? I daresay you would not. There's a time and a place for people to exercise their freedom of speech, and standing in front of the entire world representing the United States is not it.
