Very high in demand coaches don't like coming to places where they think they will be sued if they ever want to leave, especially over vague contract terms. That was the damage LSU had already done to its reputation. Now LSU looks like outright fraudsters who will alter your contract after you sign it just to prove a point.

Here is how it's going to play out. 1. Chavis is going to release his phone records (already happened); 2. The phone records will reveal he was negotiating his employment with aTm before the Music City Bowl, which 3. constitutes a breach of his contract with LSU, and 4. means Chavis is liable to LSU for the liquidated damages layed out in the contract.
First of all, "layed?" lol
Secondly the phone records are fricking METADATA. Verizon doesn't have a fricking transcript that can tell the court exactly what was said, just who talked to who IF the number can be traced back to a phone tied to Texas A&M (which I would doubt).
Here is how it's going to play out: 1. The phone records will reveal at worst that MAYBE Chavis did something wrong, but it won't prove the point either way 2. The judge, pissed that the two sides are wasting his time on a case that should be settled, and the fact that at some level both sides are in the wrong, will rule from the bench that Chavis has to to pay a reduced buyout 3. I am going to bump this thread and call you an idiot for dealing in absolutes.

If LSU sues and wins, which I am confident will happen unless Chavis caves, there's really very little that should give other well motivated coaches concern, Chavis will have been proven to be the party breaching.
The changes were immaterial and they were later seen and ratified by Chavis.
Makes a good headline, as these posts reflect, but, at the end of the day, there's nothing of substance here...

Wonder if the stories are true that he was talking a aTm on the day of the Music City Bowl? What does your heart tell you? Wonder if he was calling his agent as well?

A judge in Baton Rogue. Who probably has season tickets to LSU games. Who might have even gone to LSU.

I very much doubt he was talking to someone at Texas A&M with a phone number listed as connected to Texas A&M. Maybe he called his agent, that proves nothing.

So basically you are counting on corruption to carry the day when facts cannot?
How very Louisianian of you.

If he was talking to an A&M representative (you and I both know he probably was), that will come out through the discovery process whether it was a phone call to Kyle Field or Tokyo.

Look, we are dealing with news stories and no one has a copy of the contract, but you keep saying "both sides are in the wrong". Chavis' attorney has shot her wad on the "ateration" argument. The case would be over by now if LSU had materially altered the agreement to Chavis' disadvantage.
What matters is whether either party is in the "legal wrong". There isn't any proof that either side is legally wrong on any issue.
If the contract allows for attorneys fees and LSU proves any part of their case, even a reduced payment could be a big victory for LSU because they will get their fees.
In any case, bookmarked, and we can see how things really turn out when we see copies of the contracts or rulings.

Maybe. If he called on a burner phone it won't.

Don't you dare cover their asses for them. These LSU fans are certain of a full payout and Chavis 100% being in the wrong, let them stand on their own two feet.

Heh. I work in an area of the law where if they plaintiff wins they get all of their attorneys fees. It sucks. They can win $100 bucks and they get all of their fees.

Discovery will show what numbers are called and when.
There is a very real possibility that Sumlin's cell number pops up. Who know's? Maybe the day of, or a day or two before the bowl game

I'm not disagreeing with your statement. But with an Ole Miss logo make sure Mississippi looks in the mirror first!

And what does that prove?

The other alteration of changing the name of the school president because, well they changed, also is weightless regarding lawsuit. Few appear to have noticed that Chief said nothing for two years because there was no harm done. Only after the aTm attorney's saw a sliver of hope did the alteration become an issue. Pretty thin compared to the judge demanding phone records which will verify Chief was in bed with Sumlin prior to the bowl game.

It is not ethical and will not benefit a program in the long term to edit Coaches contracts after they have signed them.
Maybe the correct question is why didn't the LSU AD read the contract before it was given to 3rd and Chavis to sign?
Anybody that has worked with Lawyers and contracts ought to knows this stuff is serious..
