All I want them to be is better than every opposing offense.

You're a well known Pete Golding apologist.

My point is that it was just an odd situation that he was the hire when Bama could have someone much better.

No, if he was bad at his job I would say so. I just actually pay attention to the circumstances around things.

In 2019 he actually did a pretty good job with what he was given to work with. Those guys couldn't even set the edge at the start of the season, but they improved as the season went on. As Saban said, we have the people we have. The starting Mike that year was a true freshman, and he is still 3rd string now 2 years later. I'm sure you know who Shane Lee is, he was the one CEH kept beating over and over.

For the most part, people who just blame the DC do so because they don't know football, especially when it comes to how the game is changing and that defenses just can't hold good teams to 13 points anymore. They see the result and they blame the guy in charge. They are mad and just want someone to blame.

So I get called an apologist because it was obvious to me he wasn't getting fired while a bunch of Alabama fans thought he would and wanted him to get fired.

As for hiring someone better - Saban has the guy he wants, and that should be all anyone needs to know really. Golding is a really smart guy and understands the game well. He's someone who is only going to get better at his job, and will hopefully be around for a few more years before some school comes and hires him to a HC job.

And of course, as mentioned previously, rule #1: It's Saban's defense. He hires people to come in and run his defense, not the other way around.

They came on in the playoffs last year and got the job done and even against Florida when they had to get a stop, they did.

I've heard so much about Miami's QB well this will be a test if he's as good as advertised.

Ole Miss shouldn’t even talk about defense.

I agree with this in abstract. Does this mean that Saban is the person to point the finger at for why the 2018-2020 defenses have struggled? Alabama was #1 in scoring defense in 2016 and 2017. They have been #12, #13, and #13 the past 3 seasons. Sure, scoring pace on offense may have some to do with it but frankly Alabama has struggled against every good - and sometimes even mediocre or bad -offense they've played since the end of the 2017 season. The Ohio State CFPCG game was probably their best performance against great talent in 3 years but Bux was very choppy on O in 2020.

Edit: I want to make it clear I'm not actually suggesting that Saban be tarred and feathered. The facts are the defense has been demonstrably bad the last 3 years. A top 15 scoring defense is not particularly impressive with the talent on the entire roster. Alabama can boat race teams and force most opponents to panic and abandon their gameplan. Good on good? Results been poor for 3 years running now. It is either coincidental that this came after Pruitt left or it has something to do with Tupoi and Golding. I think it is combo of both...fwiw...

Pete Golden is a below average coach. Winning the title saved his job plus nobody else would hire him at an equal or better job. Talk of this being like the great defenses of the past is laughable.

I disagree. Their defense will be great.

This is a bit confusing. What would an Old Miss fan know about defense?

UA had the best Defense in the SEC in 2020. Thanks for admitting that you think they will improve on that

Unless you have Lane Kiffin coaching, or Kyle Pitts AND Kadarius Toney playing, Bama's defense will be great.
