when in the rapture Jesus Christ returns to the earth, that is the only time that having the most playoff championships will count. Mythical championships before the playoff structure started will not count.

Do not know enough about it. Billingsly lists ND. Would have to hear Bama's case over Notre Dame. Like record, H2H and SOS for both teams.
Bama started the season ranked #1. went undefeated, while ND and michigan state tied each other in their final game.

As long as Bama had a simliar SOS to Notre Dame and Michigan, sounds good.

So by your criteria, can Bama claim 1966?
Yes.
Most impartial historians of the game know the fix was in that year.

1945 too. Alabama, undefeated (10-0), and beat the crap out of USC in the Rose Bowl. But Army, undefeated (9-0) and didn't go to a bowl has the championship..... So, because Army didn't go to a bowl game, Bama should be awarded the Championship, right??
1966, Bama the only undefeated and untied team in the nation (11-0) after beating the crap out of Nebraska in the Sugar Bowl. While ND (9-0-1) and Mich St. (9-0-1) played to a tie and neither played in a bowl game shares the title..... Shouldn't this be changed because the AP didn't play by the rules???

No, they don't like to play the game in that direction. They use criteria to tear down awarded poll titles, not use the same criteria/methods to award other deserving titles.

Looks like Army was also NC in 1944 and 1946. Again, I think you have to show Bama had a similar SOS to Army. Because if Army had a greater SOS (after including the bowl win for Bama), then Army is the NC. If not, then bama.

Keep digging brother, I am sure you can find some newspaper that says you were national champions those years.
Honestly, yeah, Bama has a legit gripe about both years. They got stiffed, no two ways about it.

Not true. I am simply going by some retroactive examinations that made honest attempts to determine who was actually the best team in the country in a given year. So far, it looks like Bama has 6 legit national championships.

You use methods to take away two titles, because you think someone else is deserving of the title. However, you neglect to use those same methods for 1945 or 1966 for Alabama. Seems there are still 8 poll titles for Alabama, either way you slice it.

I gave bama 1966. But 1926 looks questionable.
Which keeps bama at 6.
If 1926 and 1945 are legit, then 8. I do not know about Army's schedule in 1945. If it was as strong or stronger than bama (including bama's bowl), then Army gets the nod.

You have to admit, even if they did not play in a bowl, 44 to 46 were kind of "Army" years.
Seriously.
Seriously.

shouldnt okie state be in based on strenght of schedule bama fans are talking about in this thread?
Posted on 12/31/11 at 5:47 pm to JETigER
Strength of Schedule not as important as Eyeball Test.

It is important for these older years when two teams have the exact same record and you are trying to decide who is the most deserving. Margin of victory against quality opponents matters as well.

44-46 has (almost) nothing to do with football. It was (almost) all about national patriotism (fair or not) as we struggled towards the conclusion of World War II.

In 1945, bama outscored their opponents 430-80. the closest game was a 28-14 win against uga. Bama beat USC 34-14 in the rose bowl.
In 1926, bama outscored opponents 249-27. Bama had 6 shutouts. No one score more than 7 points.
In 1966, bama outscored opponents 301-44. Bama they also had 6 shutouts.

As for this thread, it is an endless argument. Alabama has 8 awarded poll titles. Deal with it.
