Tornadoes missed me, and my parents by a mile or less...on opposite ends of the state. Crazy.

Just got this in my inbox....

quote]
Alabama family,

This weekend the University of Alabama baseball team hosts LSU for a three game series beginning Friday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m. The weekend series will continue on Saturday, May 7, at 3 p.m. and Sunday, May 8, at 1 p.m.

In an effort to provide a temporary diversion for those touched by storm damage, displaced community members, first responders and others that are crucial to the recovery effort are invited to attend the series free of charge. Food will be provided behind right field.

For the remainder of UA fans, admission will be free to all three baseball games with a donation. The Red Cross will have a cargo truck parked in front of Sewell-Thomas Stadium to receive donations.

Donation Needs:

• Comfort Kits
o The kit contains deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, facial tissues, wash cloth, shampoo, liquid soap, lotion, comb, razor and shaving cream.
• Clothing
• Baby items
o Diapers, formula, toys, bottles, wipes…
On game day, cash donations will be handled by the Red Cross and checks will be accepted for the UA Acts of Kindness Fund.

The University of Alabama Athletics Department would like to thank you for your contribution to our community in this time of need. We hope to see you this weekend at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

Roll Tide![/quote]

Cool idea. I might have to head up from Mobile for this. BTW, do you have to register? I mean if I don't register I assume you can still participate. I'd hate to register and then find out I can't make it that day.

They are asking everyone to register if you plan to come because they are having an overwhelming response and they want to make sure they can accomodate for everyone coming. They are also giving some sort of t-shirt (they ask for a t-shirt size when you register) so that probably has something to do with it too.

If you are seriously considering coming up, I would register. I'm sure it won't be a huge deal if you end up not being able to make it at the last minute. But that way, you have the option to come! They are saying that they are not accepting anyone "registering" after tomorrow!

Hope to see you there.

Glad to see so much positive coming from something so terrible.

Chins up Tuscaloosa, you have some special people out there in the great state of Alabama.

Best of luck to the Bama Baseball team this weekend.

Just got back from the Toomers for Tuscaloosa warehouse building in the old FoodMax Super Center down by the Northport Walmart. They are working hard over there filling that place up with supplies and donations. They had about half the power running over there so my business donated the rest of the electrical material. I'm so glad that we could help in the process of all this.

I just saw on the news that those asswipes from that Baptist church plans to protest at some funerals in TTown. It's Winnsborough (sp) in Kansas. Those crazy idiots need to keep their sorry arse at home.

I tell you one thing. I have a feeling that if they come down to Tuscaloosa and protest anyone's funeral that someone is either going to get shot or get their arse beat.

So tornadoes are fricking people in the arse? Damn the times have changed.

Those people need to just drive off a cliff. I don't see how they could honestly protest about homosexuals while a town and state are trying to recover after such a horrific event.

To all y'all in Bama, Miss, Ga, Tn, that has been affected by this natural disaster I extend my sincere condolences and best wishes. I've been through two pretty rough ones myself this decade (Katrina, Gustave) that hit us hard (I live 60 miles north of N.O.). Nothing like what I see in the rough hit spots of Tuscaloosa but affected none the less. We plan on helping out in some way but not sure how yet. Would like to go up there and cook a huge Jambalaya one weeknd for cleanup crews or home owners cleaning. What is needed most?

Please contact the DKE house in Tuscaloosa, they are in need of volunteers/services as students leave tuscaloosa. DKE is coordinating the student response. OR see Nick's Kids

LINK

Please be mindful that Redcross, United Way and other well known charities submit funds to a national or international group. around 60% of your time/money will go to salaries of executives and sent to other projects. Think Locally, Donate Locally. Roll Tide and thank you. When disaster strikes cajun country, I will be there as will many other Crimson Tide fans. Hell most of us have immediate family or cousins that went to LSU or Tulane. I know I do.
Below find the DKE contacts and above are the Nick's Kids contacts. I think Nick and Terri have established something new, but I cant find a link for it.
