Read the responses... Bama fans are delusional... 90% of your redneck fanbase will never attend a bball game and 95% will not until after football season..

Every coach board turns into "our team was under .500 but we gots potential! Bama doesn't like basketball like we do" Auburn thread

just take your sweep like a man

oh and yea, I don't see why you would leave Wichita State for our job. This isn't a Pearl situation where you're having to come back after the NCAA drops the hammer, this guy has options.

Where do Auburn fans base this idea that our Basketball fan support is nonexistent? We were 5th in the conference last year in attendance with a team 7 games below .500

Because Saban exists. As long as he is around even Kentucky's coach would play second fiddle.

So a fanbase is only capable of supporting one sport? Is that a rule?

Bottom line, he's got a better gig right now. In a yr or two he'll have one of the blue blood jobs. Only way he can screw it up is to go to Bama. Unless he really thinks Bama is a career job.

Only one can be top dog. Only one can get the kind of athletes needed to be at the top, no elite player wants to be the second biggest man on campus at a football school.

It takes a program like a UF who is lukewarm on football when it's bad to do both well. Bama could win one football game a season and still be the most talked about program on campus. The shadow is too big.

Okay since this thread has turned in to the typical SEC rant bullshite I am going to breakdown exactly what Gary Parrish (who is about as well connected as you can be in the sport) has said about this rumor:

- He says this rumor is 100% true; Bama will not make another call until Marshall says no
- Money is no object. They will go as high as they need to get him
- He thinks Bama will likely be competing with Texas, not Wichita State for Greg Marshall
- Bama is going to throw everything possible at him along with the money. Facility upgrades, private planes, a recruiting budget the same size as what Calipari is using at Kentucky, etc.
- He believes in the appeal of the Alabama brand that Nick Saban and others in the athletic department
- He believes Marshall can win big here and probably would

He goes on to talk about why we are finally starting to see some big hires like this: The SEC Network. The SEC needs a good basketball product for the SEC network to thrive. He had a discussion with Mike Slive back in January about this. There are only so many football games you can show on the network. Basketball provides sooo many more options for content.

Carry on

ETA: He also addressed a few things that people keep bringing up:
- Marshall likely takes the UCLA job if they had waited until after the tournament
- The Koch brothers likely will play no part in this because they care very little about the basketball program (as in they aren't going to match some $4m offer)
- Teams that chased him last offseason lowballed him

No idea what he'll do but Wichita is actually a really nice little city.

I personally don't give a shite about Gary Parrish's opinion. I personally don't ever see Bammer basketball becoming truly elite like an Indiana or Kentucky no matter how matter much money they throw at it. I am still skeptical of a coach that supposedly has those kind of options going to Bammer.

I also don't expect Auburn basketball to reach that level even under Pearl.

If Texas is a serious option, I seriously question why Marshall or any coach would pick bama over them. Rick Barnes lured tons of highly regarded basketball players to Texas just the way it is now

He's a great coach.

Strangely, I think he can recruit better at Alabama.

His teams play both ends and hustle. The hard part for all of us not named Kentucky in this league is the homegrown elite talent is recruited by the national powers like Kentucky, Duke, etc.

UA's average attendance was 2x higher than AU's.

You can throw all the money, jets, and promises in the World at these guys. But if they think it has a possibility of derailing their career after 6 years, they will not touch it. How many up and coming coaches have jumped at SEC Offers, only to end up leaving (with a big bank account)for some obscure assistants job when it doesn't work out ? Marshall might bite, but most coaches his age , who have aspirations to coach at an elite program, will wait and stay with a known commodity. We will see.

The School doesn't receive that revenue, the SEC takes most of that and distributes it throughout the conference.

I guess you didn't bother clicking on the link before commenting. That is the money Alabama has received after all revenue was divided up during that period.
