Can't say im too mad about it, glad miles did it. he was given a second chance and fricked it up too. Took balls for Miles to boot him though. Dude did it too himself, I will miss his playmaking ability though..

Mathieu isn't eligible to play at McNeese as it is an NCAA school. If it was a failed drug test for the third time he's done in the NCAA

Oh shite...did not know that...

Damn, now he's even dumber than I thought...if he KNEW that third strike was hanging over him.

He certainly had potential to ignite the team. However, he never showed up on 1/9

Today's events prove he was dumber than everyone probably thought.

He didn't really do much in either of the Alabama games. Had a great season but Reid and Claiborne (especially the first game) were the standouts versus us. I've thought for a while that Reid was LSU's best returning DB, but Matthieu obviously added a lot in special teams.

fully agree. TM7 is someone who could really make something out of nothing, but on the other hand, in basic everydown defensive schemes, often didn't look that good, especially in the NCG. As last year wore on, some of us noticed that he seemed to be looking to make the big play and his basic coverage skills were suffering.

The difference between him and anyone else who looks for the big play is that TM7 delivered over and over. But the OP question is pretty astute. Given a half season in 2011, or offseason, SEC coaches have figured him out and I don't think you would have seen a repeat of his 2011 performance.

In the basic defensive core, it's addition. In the intangible playmaker, it's subtraction.

Too bad Alabama will have to find a new CB to pick on.

Well in both games we played vs him he really didnt do anything great or make me just go wow. If i had to say i guess it wouldnt be eathier.

Hurt your best cornerback, saved a touchdown, and made some big tackles. He didn't force a turnover or score, but he was certainly a factor in the first game.

After watching the LSU-WKU game again the other day, I've come to the conclusion that Saban should thank Willie Taggart for the BCSCG offensive gameplan. Bama did a lot of the same things WKU did, but with better players.

WKU played very well and hard in the first half of that game.

they just weren't that deep.

All they have to do is stay clean for a yr or two and cash in. I'll never understand.

in their defense......and i know this is a weak one.....those two years that they need to stay clean, those years are the ones where they are "offered" the most in their lives

I don't see how its an addition in any way, I just don't think he was the best player in the conference like some people did.

I don't even know the names of any LSU corners besides Simon though. I assumed they would have found a third corner that was good enough to let Matthieu play nickel but now they have to find another guy.

I don't think it will hurt the defense that much except from a depth standpoint. I think LSU has DBs at least as good as TM.

It will hurt the return game.

I agree with half of this. I think it is a tremendous loss. It is one that will make the defense significantly worse in the back 7 and significantly younger and inexperienced.

Any LSU fan that doesn't think this is a monumental loss would do good to go watch the Oregon and Arkansas games to get some perspective.

Obviously he was a good player. Obviously he adds a dimension to the defense that makes LSU intimidating to most teams. So anyone would want that. He was like really good delicious gravy with crusty debris on an already delicious roast beef Po Boy. The sandwich was delicious, but the gravy added the extra je ne sais quoi. Anyone who thinks this is going to make or break LSU's dominance is silly. And who knows what that awesome corner that y'all have behind Matthieu is capable of. If LSU is going to succeed or fail, it's beyond Matthieu.

I was curious after last year to see if he could evolve after being exposed, or if we saw all he had and his effectiveness was on the downward trend. So I'm disappointed that I won't see that.

Sounds like you wouldn't know what you are looking at based on your characterization of his play.
