Because the SEC brand’s 2018 value is probably 40% Nick Saban’s Bama. Or more.
And it’s the SEC brand that has given us our first shot in our program’s history to out recruit our former local rivals and have the stability needed to build ourselves up as a program.
To use the analogy you like the value of Bama to the SEC helps us be Pepsi instead of RC Cola (aka get confused with Texas Tech nationally).

Alabama fans are incredibly gracious to visitors in Tuscaloosa. I routinely hear nothing but positive feedback from fans visiting from other schools. TAMU, PSU (when we did the home and home several years back), are just a few that come to mind.
Obviously we have a range of idiots in our fanbase, but by in large they don't show up for games.
