During World War II, Texas A.M.C. produced 20,229 Aggies who served in combat. Of those, 14,123 were commissioned as officers, more than the combined total of the United States Naval Academy and the United States Military Academy during the same timeframe.[6][7][8] Over 250 Aggies have served as generals or flag officers,[9] and eight alumni have been awarded the highest United States military award, the Medal of Honor:[10][11][12]

I mean no personal offense, but this observation demonstrates that you do not know much about the history of the military academies.

Before World War II, West Point was actually very small. It certainly put the most officers into the regular army (which was also tiny), but both Texas A&M and LSU produced more reserve officers than the USMA. The production of reserve officers was actually the primary reason for the existence of the land grant colleges, such as A&M and LSU.

All of those reserve officers were called up to serve during World War II. Thus, during the war, both Texas A&M and LSU had more active duty officers than did West Point.

I love my school and its history, but there is no conclusive prove that Patton ever said this. Given that the same quote is attributed to both VMI and The Citadel, I have always tended to question its authenticity.

But Omar Bradley did make a very similar statement, which is well attributed.
quote:

The men of Texas A&M can stand up to any men in the world and compare favorably their education and training for leadership—leadership in the pursuits of peace, and if it comes to war, leadership in battle.
on the other hand, it would not surprise me in the slightest if Patton did say something very close to that about someone. In addition to being an extraordinary general, he was a bullshitter extraordinaire. if he saw the need to flatter someone, he was always able to find the way

Google it and see what you come up with. What makes you think it is not true? While you are at it, Google Earl Rudder and see what you get.

I Googled it. From all appearances he never said it.

The quote has been around a long time

"The guy" is "founder and president of The Patton Society, Province owns every General Patton book, magazine, movie, poster and voice recording in existence. He has penned three Patton books of his own, and he estimates that his collection of Patton memorabilia is the second largest in the world, only behind that of the Patton family themselves."

the official LSU website claims 5000 officers from LSU served in World War II. an impressive number. Kudos to LSU.

Texas A&M produced almost 15,000.

Could be like the insanity quote attributed to Einstein even tho he did not say it

quote:

"People will use it with Texas Aggies, The Citadel, Virginia Military Institute and even Clemson. All of these schools want to be linked to Patton."

Considering he was at VMI, at least they probably have the best claim. I think his dad and grandfather went there as well so lots of ties to the school.
