I really appreciate all the responses, going to be a good weekend. Road trips in the SEC have been amazing to this point for all sports, I mean hell, I used to think the road trip to Ames, Iowa was pretty fun, last couple of years have made me love the move to the SEC. Except MSU, your city sucks

Downtown Athens is what every college town should aspire to.

It is legit the best small town in the south/country.

Has great music, great food, incredible drinking and everything is cheap as dirt and within like 1.5 square miles. I was shocked at how many incredible restaurants Athens has. Great coffee too. 1000 faces. shite is like 20 dollars a bag if you order it from them, but you can get a cup at Walker's for cheaper than the starbucks next door.

Make sure to go to Mama's Boy or Big city bread for breakfast.

Not sure if it's too cold, but spending an hour or two in the afternoon drinking in front of Walkers is some of the best people watching around.

Last resort is great. But they don't take reservations. If you want to eat here, make sure to give yourself an extra 30-45 mins to wait for your table. Might not be bad though if it's cold and not a weekend with something big going on.

Trapeze is key. Great food. Best beer.

If you are into a "different" crowd, Little Kings is a really cool bar with an older crowd(By that I mean no one under about 23). And by different, I'm saying that an aggot would feel right at home. Cool outdoor area and drink prices are pretty good.

Blue Sky is another bar with an incredible beer selection.

Unfortunately my favorite bar shutdown for some reason. It's now Horsefeathers (dumbest name of all time) but it used to be Treppenhaus, and they would serve liters of (good) beer on draft for about 7-9 bucks. Can't count how many drunken nights I spent there.

Creature Comforts >>>>>> Terrapin, but Terrapin ain't bad.

Best 3 years of my life. Without question. frick I'd love to go back and do all the same shite again.

Hopefully the weather is nice. I would make absolutely sure you travel to Athens for the next time ATM plays them in football.

Athens in the fall is just unreal.

Eh, not to shite on Athens, but it's got a ton of problems. It can be dirty and crime filled, it has a lot of legitimately bad areas.

I think it is close to the top for top college towns, and I recommend UGA as a great "experience" school a lot. But I probably wouldn't live in Athens again. Some would, and I get that, but outside of the college context it's not for everyone.

Nope never lived in Athens. But I have family there. I go often. I live in johns creek so it's a relatively short drive over for a good night out. I love Athens. They have great food and great beer. Not fan of UGA football but I feel like when out on the town you don't really notice you are amongst the worst fanbase ever ;)

Agree with the above. Athens has some super sketch areas. I only walk around in downtown by I've driven through some if the slums. It's like country slums. Not city slums. It has a weird vibe that I stay away from.

Yea theres a few sketch areas, but the downtown area is pretty safe. Cops everywhere usually.

I mean, I wouldnt want to live there as a single middle aged guy, but for a young adult/college student/young family it's pretty awesome. Close to Atlanta if you need something that can only be found in a big city.

If I was a 45 year old bachelor I dont think it would be that great.

If you want to dance to some pretty good music, go to 9ds. Boars is also a really fun bar. Pool and what not inside. Hedges usually has some pretty good music and vape shots.

DePalmas for a great Italian dish.

Last Resort Grill.

I only get back for a game or two a year at my age (46) but lived in Athens from 90-96. Lived in a downtown loft my last two years and most of the bars we went to are something else now. I worked as a bartender at Uptown Lounge when it was "Where People Go" and at The Georgia Theatre as they were owned by the same guy. Nowhere Bar, Roadhouse, and The Globe are about the only bars left from my days.

Some of the following names should bring back memories to those who were there from 90-98.

Peppinos
LuLus Bait Shack
Mean Mikes
City Bar
Georgia Bar
Engine Room
Rum Runners
The Winery
Half Moon Pub
Flanagans
Ratskellar
Washington Street Tavern
High Hat Blues Club
Sky's Place
O'Malleys
40 Watt Club
Compadres
Steverinos
DTs Down Under
Atomic Lounge

9ds was practically a gay bar during my last two years.

Still pretty fun if you're fricked up and want to get down to an incredible 90s playlist full of anthems.

My rule for 9ds is that I'd only go if I was already shitfaced enough that I didn't want/need to drink anymore and only if it was after 1:00. Basically if me and my friends actually made it to 9ds to close the night, we knew that we had a pretty epic night of drinking.
