Like I said in a thread last week (and was laughed at by everyone), Mallett has a chance to be first selected.

That wasn't even the discussion of that thread so stop with your whining.

PP NUMBER 1 DRAFT PICK 2011

quote:

NFL Network's
Brian Baldinger has Peterson going first overall in his most recent mock draft. If Peterson went No. 1, it would mark the first time that a cornerback did so. Does Peterson know that?

can't help but laugh when I say that name

Thanks for the answer. I, of course, agree with you on all fronts. We'll just have to wait and see if we are right or not.

BTW, your "ridin dirty" video was frickin hilarious.

None of these quarterbacks will be the first overall pick.

If I had the pick, it would be Fairley, Mallett, or Dareus. I think Fairley and Dareus are both good pics here, but if I wanted a home-run type pick, I'd go with Mallett.

I wouldn't take any of the QB's as the #1 overall pick. I personally would rather go with Fairley or Peterson, just my opinion.

I understand the sentiment, especially after so many QB's have been taken #1 overall in the past and failed (ex: J-Roc, Alex Smith, David Carr, Tim Couch, etc.) while players picked after them later (Adrian Petersen, Pat Willis, Aaron Rodgers, Julius Peppers, Ed Reed, Edgerrin James, Torry Holt, Champ Bailey, etc) went on to super-stardom that the general fan thought was more obvious from the beginning.

But a hopeless team picking first has to inspire hope to its fans. DE's, CB's, OT's & DT's don't inspire hope (ie: sells tickets) like a QB does even if the other positions would prove to be the better pick in the long run.

There are about 12 teams with serious QB needs and there are only 3 (maybe 4 with Locker) as legit 1st round talent QB prospects. 6 of those teams have new coaches who want to put their stamp on a team with a corner-stone first pick. Most of those 12 teams pick within the first 15 picks, and only three of those teams will get one of those QB's.

Since quality QB's are even more a premium this year with no Andrew Luck, I have no doubt that the first overall pick will be a QB, if not by Carolina, by some team ensuring they get one of those 3 QB's.

I cant imagine Carolina taking a QB with the first pick not this year. But if they do I would go with Mallet.

Drafting yet another quarterback with the first pick will not get Panthers fans excited when they have many needs that throwing a rookie quarterback into the fire will not solve.

Besides, they have upwards of a 95% renewal rate on their season tickets. Even if fans don't show up, they still buy the tickets. Ultimately fans want to see their team show a commitment to winning. Teams do that by drafting signing/re-signing players that will help the team. Not all of those pick-ups will be big name sexy picks, but if they help improve the team especially at an area of weakness, then fans will take notice.

It just doesnt make sense to pick a QB first pick this year. Either pick PP with the first or trade down for a first and second round pick.

I love PP7, I really do, I just can't remember a DB being the first pick. When's the last time that happened?

Carolina went 2-14 with Jimmy Clausen/Moore. The need a franchise QB. There's a reason the teams from 32 to 17 are picking where they are: they all have a legit QB at the helm.

But even if the the Panthers don't think they need another QB, and just want to build around them, then the plan still works if they pretend they are serious about taking a QB. Then Denver with Orton/Tebow or Buffalo with Fitzpatrick or Arizona with John Skelton gets scared the Pantehrs might take their man, and they might jump up to the #1 spot to get that ticket seller & "hope-inspirer" for their depressed fans.

Carolina simply jumps down a couple of spots, and still has a shot at a Peterson, Bowers, Fairley or Dareus while also picking up extra significant picks. Point is, a QB is still taken #1.

carolina needs a QB but there is not a first pick QB availible. trade down pickup Stanzi in second. and shore up your defense.

Ummmm Never....time for it to happen though, and there is no better candidate than PP7

I have to agree with you there. A defensive back who can lockdown the opposing team's best WR, make big plays on D, and be a big factor in the kickoff/punt return game is deserving of the #1 pick.
