I never did hear a reply to the ones that Yale and Princeton won. More that any of the other teams that you mention. Interesting how you only consider data that is convenient to your point.

What about them? I don't see how they are relevant to my point, unless you agree that they too should only claim 'poll era' titles? That is, if schools like ND, USC, and Michigan would do the same.

Why is the Yale/Princeton thing matter? It's the same issue. If you look at the entire history of college football, then they won lots of championships. If you start counting only after the AP, then...
The question is do you ignore history for whatever reason.

I didn't read the whole thing, (just the first page and the last page), but this guy probably said 1961 because that is the first AP or UPI or BCS (the polls that ESPN recognizes as NC) that Alabama has won since the AP poll started in 1936.
Suits me if our rivals want to just count 8. We do have 8 legitimate AP and/or UPI and BCS titles since 1936, tied for the most.
The nearest SEC team with recognized AP/UPI/BCS national championships are Florida and LSU with 3 each, which means Bama has 5 more than the next SEC team. The rest are historic polls or Rose Bowl Champions. (All jealous bitches who didn't get invited to play in the Rose Bowl, Bama was invited 6 times and only lost 1.
