pretty sure Rovell denied DT was a source a few days ago.

Really? Then why did the Chancellor bring him up?

maybe b/c that's who Rovell originally reported set up the autograph session.

I can't actually find the tweet where he denies it though.

I just remember a thread on TexAgs that had that as the header.

Hmm. I can't help but think this is gonna get interesting before it's resolved.

I'm still not gonna try to read the tea leaves though.

I went through Rovell's twitter and either that tweet was deleted or my ADD and dyslexia caused me to miss it.

here is a link to the TexAgs thread though. Its not terribly informative.

I just don't think it was the chancellor's place to go there about it.

Bringing up the dealer's criminal background, in my opinion, was folly, though.

Number one, the fact that the guy sold dope doesn't preclude him from buying autographs.

Number two, the fact that he sold dope doesn't hold water as an effective defense for Johnny if it turns out that someone, somewhere can prove that he did.

That, in my opinion, was a Bad Move which could come back to bite him someday. He went way too personal.

So nobody believes Johnny when he denied it because of his questionable character (he likes to drink and party during the off season). But you're willing to take the word of a convicted felon who lost money because of Johnny's trademarking?

I wonder what user name he posts under.

So nobody believes the broker because he got popped for a marijuana possession charge (was it a felony or misdemeanor?), but they'll take the word of Johnny all nigh...blahblahblah

It goes both ways.

Point is - Rovell doesn't need to go to print with a story unless he has some info that can be verified by credible sources.

What was the rush? Aren't fact checking and vetting reliable sources critical pieces of journalism? Even blogs have more credible info these days...

Bruce Feldman was the best reporter ESPN had, but the canned him just because he assisted Mike Leach in his book. Even though he cleared that with ESPN first.

Honestly, when I read it I thought it was a joke seeing that it was written by the chancellor. Most chancellor's/president's wouldn't even take the time to lower themselves and their position to scratch around in the dirt vetting their opinion on journalists/dope dealers/brokers, etc.

I agree, but A&M is different. Its always them against the world. Sharp is first and foremost a politician. Politicians are used to grovelling in the dirt. They don't know any better.

we are talking about a guy who was tricked by a high school kid into thinking he ran a high end escort service for NBA players.

fact checking isn't exactly his strong suit.

Well, Big 12 fans are used to shoddy journalism and being fed piles of BS year after year. You would think you t-sips wouldn't be so quick to form opinions after being burned so many times.

Between Ketch's talent evaluations and Chip Brown's reporting on conference re-alignment, ya'll haven't been able to tell your arse from a hole in the ground going on 3 years now.

Thanks for the link, that Rovell story on NBA escort services takes the cake! Dude just published it without any verification. If only the kid would have mentioned Lebron James specifically...

Who cares about Ketch or Brown? They are totally insignificant. But your boy Sharp is becoming almost the laughing stock that Rick Perry is. Seriously, how can you defend a system chancellor of a so-called flagship school getting involved with sports journalists?

Talked to A&M System Chancellor Sharp. Without hesitation, he told me he knows Johnny Manziel didn't do what he's accused of. More tonight.

Easily, my friend. He didn't engage Rovell directly on twitter. (unlike Rovell, who engaged Manziel directly on twitter.) He is just passing info on to Aggies because he has been in communication with the NCAA, so he feels the story is lacking credible evidence. Maybe you are too quick to believe what you want to believe.

Sure, but I say put up or shut up. We don't need smear campaigns just to drive ratings.
